Is Gender Discrimination the Main Reason Women Are Paid Less Than Men?

    don't type it. if it's a real study, it should be published just like any other study. give me a link (name) of the study and i will go read the study design and such.

    I suppose that the study info you refer to only applies to skilled work?

    Yes. But it's kind of silly to argue that a minimum wage job is proof of gender wage equality. The minimum wage is the same for either sex.

    It really isn't simple. The problem with your approach is that using probabilities in your scenario very well may punish women who will not, or otherwise would not, give birth etc. You are making a judgement based on a future event that may or may not happen, and you are doing that based on gender. That's sexism.

    Using your criteria try out this scenario:

    One African American applicant, one white applicant. Fact base: African Americans are more likely to be convicted of a violent crime than caucasian Americans.

    So I hire the white applicant based on probabilities. After all, it is more likely that the AA applicant will lose work time due to conviction.

    How does that sound?

    a lot of fast food joints and "unskilled" jobs, especially in highly populated/trafficked areas, pay more than minimum wage. i don't think you'll find a difference in the amount that women and men get paid in either case.
