So I went there a few days ago. Had it once before and wasn't impressed, but I decided to give it another chance since the place always has a bunch of hype.

Again, I was not impressed. The burgers are meh, they have no real flavor. Plus they are overpriced as heck. I spent 10 bucks on a hamburger, regular fries, and a drink. 10 bucks!

I'd take a combo at Whataburger over Five Guys any day, even if I could get both for free. Whataburger burgers have more flavor and are less expensive.

In-N-Out (for me) is still the king of all burger joints though.

So after trying Five Guys twice, you were unimpressed?

Odd, because I think Whataburger may be the most overrated burger joint in Texas.

Let the onslaught commence! (I'm sure we will arrive at a consensus once this thread concludes. )

I've never been, but there is one opening in a few weeks just a few blocks down the road from me.

Should I be excited? It seems they are very highly rated.

I'm one of those guys that has a natural negative disposition towards popular things. Five Guys is very popular and hyped, but it's so good I like it anyway. Not overrated at all in my opinion.

And $10 is only 2 or 3 dollars more than what you'd spend for a combo at a regular fast food place, but the quality is superior and you get A LOT of food.

You say this but claim another burger place is overrated??? I have never had 5 guys, we dont have them here. But there is no way anything on earth could be more overrated than In-N-Out. They have the worst fries known to man and there burgers are just like any other fast food burger.

Five guys are okay. definitely overrate IMO.

In n out is still the best fast food burger. $2 for a high quality burger which is obviously better than all the fast food burgers out there.I love their fries. I mean i didn't like them at first but after awhile it grows on you. Plus they are made fresh too and you can watch them peel those potatoes.

5 Guys is, indeed, overrated. As is In-N-Out, IMHO.

There are expensive burgers out there that are worth it, though. Mighty Fine Burgers in Austin is unbelievably good. Add in their epic fries and a nice strawberry-lemonade, and you've got the best burger meal in Central Tx.

I like five guys...didnt realize it was so hyped.

mighty fine is good as well but I'd rate it lower. that lemonade is good, so is p-terrys

I agree that whataburger is overhyped.

Whataburger seems to be only on the Texas roadmap while Five guys is nationally lauded.

Either way, they both suck compared to In - n - Out.

In-N-Out didn't do much for me - slightly better quality than McDonalds and they will be consistent because the burgers are freshly made. A lot of similarities to Whataburger, actually. The fries were mediocre to boot.

Five Guys is a good burger joint - the burgers taste like they are made out of beef, which is a plus. The fries are a little expensive, but there are enough to share for two. I take some points off because they don't offer a shake on the menu.

Itty Bitty Burger Barn on Pinemont near Antoine is a great place to go if you haven't been. Great burgers and great value.

I don't like Five Guys burgers either. They opened one up about 10 mins from me about 2 years ago and it's always super busy. I've only been 3 times when they first opened. I don't get what's so good about it.

Whataburger used to be better before the lawyers started making them burn their meat after the 1993 Jack-in-The-Box E. coli deaths.

But you should only compare them to fast food burgers, and in that category they are still superior.
