From ESPN's Insider (formerly nbatalk): "Kwame Brown wasn't the only player to have an impressive workout with the Hawks. Insider has learned that DePaul's Steven Hunter came in and destroyed Eddy Curry and Loren Woods last week. . . Senegal big man DeSagana Diop had his first workout with the Hawks this week. Despite having been working out for only 3 and 1/2 weeks due to a broken foot, Diop impressed the Hawks with his size and athleticism, Insider learned. Diop shattered the Hawks' "Superman" record (previously broken by Shane Battier and then Loren Woods) by doing an astounding 93 reps. . .Why are teams beginning to shy away from Michigan State's Jason Richardson? Despite his athleticism, several teams in the lottery refuse to deal with his agent, Dan Fegan. Depending on how the top five picks shake out, Richardson could slip all the way to Cleveland at No. 8. Fegan advised Richardson to cancel a workout in Detroit who drafts nine. Richardson is still a lock for the lottery, but another Fegan client, Cincinnati's Kenny Satterfield is really paying the price. The Utah Jazz are high on Satterfield and would consider taking him with their 24th pick, were it not for Fegan. The Jazz have already been through two acrimonious negotiations with Fegan (Shandon Anderson and Howard Eisley) and don't want to go through the process again." When draft picks drop b/c of the identity of their agent, something's screwed up. BTW, who will get the last laugh? The Jazz or the Rockets? Rocket fans gloated about stealing Shandon from the Jazz. Now Jazz fans might get to see Fegan take something a bit more valuable from Houston...
Interesting. I think it's great that teams won't draft certain players because of their agents. If a team gets jerked around by an agent, they can boycott all his clients who will turn around and get a new agent. It sucks for Satterfield, but next year draftees looking for agents will think twice about Fegan because of what his rep did to Satterfield. As for Olajuwon; I'm not worried about Fegan. Olajuwon doesn't seem the type to let his agent do too much without his blessing. If Dream and the Rockets can't come to terms, I won't blame it on the agent (necessarily). ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
I would not blame Fegan if Dream does not come back. Olajuwon knows what is happening. ------------------ Fuggetabout it
It happens all the time in MLB draft. Strategies of teams like Houston are to draft player easy to sign. This might not be the best player, but is fiscaly responsible. ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Charles Barkley
You can rest assured that Fegan didn't have much to do with Shandon signing with the Rockets. The reason Shandon left Utah for Houston had a lot to do with what Shandon wanted and not his agent. Otherwise, he would have taken the largest contract he could (I don't think Fegan would have advised him to hold out for a bigger payoff later). That isn't to say Fegan can't be a nightmare, but we know that in some cases his client's will supercedes his own. ------------------ Gotta love the Rocket Guy
If Hakeem wants Houston, he will sign here despite what Fegan wants. ------------------ Gotta love the Rocket Guy
Why would Dream hire a new agent so late in his career? The potential scenarios for Dream's salary as a Rocket have been computed numerous times on this BBS and they are probably not to Dream's liking. Several things rule against Dream resigning as a Rocket. 1. The Rockets' desire for cap space. 2. Webber or some other deal that makes severely reducing Dream's salary a major Rocket objective. 3. Dream's reduced role in the team's offense. (Read: Pride) 4. The short window of opportunity that Dream thinks he has left in the NBA and his doubts that the rest of the team will be ready in time. Why would Dream hire a new agent so late in his career? If none of the above were issues for Dream, he could have kept his previous agent and paid aelliott 2,500 @ day for CBA consulting and advising on the Rockets' salary cap possiblities.
