You're really trying hard, aren't you? Leinart: 31 for 51 for 405 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT. Offense (with Edge, Boldin, and Fitzgerald) scored 12 points. Young: 24 for 35 for 249 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT. 69 yards rushing on 10 carries, 1 rushing TD. Offense (with Travis Henry and some anonymous receivers) scored 24 points. Who had the better game?
What a mistake. No matter what Mario does or what Reggie does they will never live down letting Vince go, especially to Bud Adams boys. Mario looks like he will be average at best, and Reggie looks like a bust. But Vince is gonna be a star. There had better be extra security in 2 weeks when Vince torches the Texans at Reliant. Sad day for Texan fans.
love vince, but I knew they weren't gonna take him because they are in love with carr and that's fine with me. but mario is not average, he had a really good game today. unfortunately, the only stats a defensive rush end are going to put up are sacks. but mario disrupts things. the improvement he has made in his techniqe is impressive. he was extremely raw the first few games, but now he knows how to rush. and some of the bull rushes up the middle today he made were reggie whitesqe. that dude is strong and fast and once he has his hands on a ball carrier, its over. he has amazing closing speed on opponents for a man his size. he's only going to get better. its not a bad pick, unless vince continues to do what he did today.
pgabriel.. I agree, Mario can be a very good player. He might not get the attention of others because he is not a qb or a position that you see on the highlights a ton, but he can help the team.
Of course you would jgreen, but like another poster pointed out, you gave up objectivity long long ago. You didn't even see the game and you automatically try to discredit VY for the game. Ask anyone that saw the game, even Giants fans, and they'll tell you what they saw...Vintage VY. 2 passing touchdowns in the 4th quarter, 1 rushing TD, and 2 4th down conversions. Yes...Eli threw 2 picks but none were returned for a TD, VY still marched his team down the field for 3 TDs and a field goal...all in the 4th quarter. At least pretend to be somewhat of an objective poster.
Mario may "help the team" but the #1 overall pick is supposed to do alot mre than help the team. They shpuld be franchise type players, like Vince Young.
Well, I meant more than just "help". Mario may end up one of the best defenders in the league (or might not end up that way) and Vince might end up being an average qb (or could end up one of the best). Too early to tell, way too early to tell.
I should ask is it Mario that is the issue or is the issue that many people don't believe in ever taking a defensive guy with the top pick? I didn't really have a problem with not taking a qb if the coaching staff came in and felt that they could win with Carr.
may , might , if mario williams sucks and it looks like RB is decent but no better than Mario - little impact but did you see Vince young? VY > Carr and we should have taken Vince it seems
Well, I don't agree with that comment.. you don't think he is a good player? I didn't see the game, but I'm not going to call someone a star or a bust based on one game. Everything is a may or an if really at this point. Vince can be a star in this league IF he can string together great games on a regular basis. Mario Williams can be a star IF he does this or that... At this point, we've seen flashes of what we might be able to get out of Vince and Mario.. they both will have to put solid performances together on a regular basis.
I think Vince can be a good player, just not ready to go around calling him once in a lifetime or anything after one great game.
No, not really. He has had one great NFL game. We know he was great in college, we are talking NFL here.
Just like I'm not going to call him a bust because of his qb rating, etc leading up to this game (and yes it is normal for many rookies to not have a great qb rating, I know that), I'm not going to call him great off of one great game either. I'm not ready to judge this draft just yet. We'll see how Vince turns out as far as average, good, great, etc and how the others turn out and then can judge the draft.
What an adroit analysis? Mario sucks?! Mario got knockdowns of Pennington and caused the only sack of the game to occur. Remember hes getting double teamed alot. This is for certain, Mario gets his hands on you and you are going nowhere. The VY deal for this week no contest. However, the Titans capitalized on NYG meltdown plays more than outplaying them, but the bottom line is the bottom line. VY got it done and Carr sucks!
Where did I say he would get benched as a rookie? I said he will have to be a good passer eventually to avoid getting benched. Before this past game he had not had a very good passing game, that's a fact. I don't dislike Vince like you dislike T-Mac. If he succeeds that is fine with me, but I don't want him to beat the Texans. You obviously can't stand people criticizing people you like, well get over it, this is a public message board. I don't get all upset just because someone makes legitimate criticism against TMac that turns out to be wrong.
Still too early to say he's better than Carr. Had a better game than Carr this week but there are a lot of games to play.
I'm happy. I'm not going to sit around with "would ofs, could ofs, blah blah blah". VY is a good player but I don't care. Mario and Carr are Texans, and I support them and I am a fans. There are never sure things in drafts. We took could have had many great players on all Houston teams. So what. I'm also not going to be a stupid fanboy of a college player to the point where I turn on the home team, ever. They make me sick. I going to be a fan of the Stros, Texans, and Rockets no matter how many people trash Yao, Tmac, Hakeem, Mario, Carr etc. That's just the way it is.
I don't know if he's better or not, but it's certainly no joke to compare the peformance of the two. * Vince is a rookie, and improving very quickly * His team, which only won 4 games all of last season, has won 4 of the last 6 * He just broke a 23 year-old rookie comeback record held by the fantastic John Elway ... comebacks... what Vince is known for ... like Elway, Montana, Marino... What can Carr say? Year-in, year-out he leads his team to crushing, demoralizing defeats sapping the life out of Texan fans? I don't know how much 'credit' for this team belongs to Carr, but it certainly does not seem that he has proven an ability to carry a team on his shoulders. Vince did that in college as well as anyone in NCAA history; now we see it starting in the NFL.
