It's weird because people like bima, and feigan have been pretty dam high on this kid from the beginning and always speaking as though they expect Covington to not be a player cut during training camp..

Morey isn't done until he completes his agenda. What is that agenda? Probably the following:

    1. Obtain a second superstar. Done.
    2. Find a starting power forward. The answer may well already be on the roster. Morey can afford to wait and see until the trade deadline.
    3. Find a quality backup for Harden, so he can be rested more than last year. We really need to improve on what we had last year Delfino and Anderson were lost, but Garcia was resigned. Williams and Casspi could help, but even if they both pan out, Morey is probably looking for an opportunity to fill this need until the trade deadline.
    4. Find a backup defender at the Center position. Done and Done.
    5. Find a third string point guard (after cutting Brooks). Done and Done.
    6. Since we have a second superstar, find a third. It could come internally, but Morey will be hunting. At the trade deadline Boston, Portland and Minnesota may decide they will not make the playoffs, so best tank. If so, I'm sure offers will be made for Rondo, Aldridge and Love.
    7. Obtain additional draft picks to assist in trading for the next star.

I don't expect any major deals before the trade deadline, but with Morey you never know.

If Morey was done making moves in August, Kevin Martin would still be our "star"

Money couldn't go to anyone else. He signed minimum deal with guaranteed money. Minimum contract exception used to acquire him. Guaranteed money was used to make sure he signed with Rockets.

How do we have too many good PG's now?

    Lin is ok.
Bev showed up real late during the season.
    Brooks barely played.
Canaan will be in D League.

Morey is waiting for that phone call for a trade he can't refuse. The man has a lot of patience, something all of us could learn.

He's "done" in the sense that there's likely no active pursuit of anyone. Even Harden traded last year was initiated by Presti once he couldn't get an extension done.

Unless someone like Aldridge or Love suddenly becomes available, I think Morey will just roll with Jones/DMo at PF to start the year, and see how it goes.

    Yes

We have some good SG also that can combo the PG as well. On this team that is more than enough. Harden will be the dominant ball handler anyway as he is among the best at it.

    No

The 4 spot last year was a huge problem and doubt Morey will rest until that spot is taken care of. (waiting to hear how great TJones was during Summer league)

Dude's never done. He's all about the ratio of success: attempts. He knows he's got to keep that number coming...

According to Shamsports, Covington's salary is FULLY guaranteed this season (for $490,180) plus partially guaranteed for $150,000 in 2014-15.

And yes, I like his potential as a long-armed, 6-9 small forward (the position he played almost exclusively during summer league) who can also slide over to power forward and can shoot it from deep. He should do well in RGV next year and could help the Rockets down the line.
