Dirk's supporting caste isn't as good as you think. Take away Dirk, and that team is the 7th or 8th seed. People forget very quickly how much JT stank before he came to the Mavs.
No he didnt. JT was good in Atlanta. He was about 18 and 8....and shooting the same percentage he is now
I love unintelligent nonsense. Terry's shooting percentage is considerably better in Dallas than it was in Atlanta. To say otherwise, is ignoring fact. Year Team FG% 3p% 99-00 ATL 0.415 0.293 00-01 ATL 0.436 0.395 01-02 ATL 0.43 0.387 02-03 ATL 0.428 0.371 03-04 ATL 0.417 0.347 04-05 DAL 0.501 0.42 05-06 DAL 0.47 0.411 06-07 DAL 0.46 0.422 Career 0.442 0.384
Dirk won it for Dallas tonight. They were down by 4 and he responded with 2 huge 3's to regain the lead and a clincher at the very end to seal the deal.
Now, here's a thought. Tell me what y'all think of it -- it might be incredibly stupid. Dirk Nowitzki's shot begins behind his 7'0" head and ends above it at the peak of his jump. It is virtually impossible to block. Dirk takes this shot most games and has incredible accuracy with it. Unless he's driving into traffic, he won't be taking contact (otherwise, he'll get foul shots, something teams want him shooting even LESS). With this in mind, why not just STOP double teaming Dirk? A big reason why the mavericks are so good right now is because teams will double Dirk, and guys like Howard, Terry, or (gulp) Buckner will get open looks. Anyone can make an open shot. And since, no matter how many guys you put on him, the only thing you can do to Dirk to affect his shooting is restrict his movement and put a hand in his face (it also seems that Dirk heavily favors shooting from the left side of the basket, though I'm writing this all from the top of my head). If you get some pressure on Terry, Stack, Howard, and the rest of their team, their shooting percentage will go down. So why not do that? Stop double-teaming Dirk, and restrict his ability to drive left. The above was either brilliant, obvious, or ridiculously stupid. It's 2:00am, and I'm not quite sure which it was right now. Oh, and I drove down from denton today. It's so nice to not be in the d/fw area.
