Is Derrick Rose the softest "superstar" in league history?

Why hasn't Chicago completely turned on this guy yet? He's been practicing for MONTHS. His latest excuse is "muscle memory"? What a ridiculous joke. He should have started to ramp up his minutes from 10 to 15 to 20 etc. about a month ago. Of course he's not going to be the same player if all he friggin does is practice in shootarounds and no stress games against Chicago bench scrubs.

    Guy's a joke.

What he is doing is just embarrassing at this point. I was a supporter of him not coming back too soon but muscle memory is a ridiculous excuse. Several of his teammates are battling injuries that are probably more severe than his at this point so he needs to at least step on the court and give it a go.

Why hasn't Chicago turned on him you ask? Because he is smart...Since they have drafted him, all he does is improve his game on the court. He doesn't open his mouth unnecessarily to the media and give them drama to talk about. And the fact that Chicago knows he is their franchise player - the last thing you want is for him to come back and hurt his knee again.

Because players coming back from major injuries before they feel ready has always worked so well in the past.

But is there anything actually wrong with the guy besides his psyche?

    Grant Hill.

    That is all.

That comparison is ridiculous. Hill didn't take the full rest period and his ankle had not fully recovered. Rose was cleared by Doctors months ago. There is a difference between not being physically ready and not being mentally ready.

I think a lot of guys rush too much to get back. It's probably a good thing that Rose is taking his time. They'd rather have a superstar come back after missing a whole season as opposed to having him come back as a roleplayer level PG because he didn't give his body a chance to recuperate properly.

that's important too, the fear is that he will try to over compensate and result in another injury.

there's nothing to gain for Rose to rush back whether its physically or mentally.

If I was the Bulls management I wouldn't pressure him either. He'll come back whenever he feels ready because like others have said he plays all out when he is out on the court.

He was cleared by team doctors, which means the acl is healed. Does that mean the rest of the muscles in his legs and his conditioning are at the point where he feels comfortable accelerating, stopping on a dime, pushing off, moving laterally? In competition as intense as playoff games? We don't know.

Anyway, if he shows up to training camp 100% and has an MVP caliber season next year, no one's going to remember this a year from now anyway.

if you don't really trust the leg in which he just had surgery yet, he'll try to jump, land etc using his good leg as much as possible putting on not only an unnaturally high amount of stress on his good leg but also increases the chances of him landing awkwardly, both increases the chance of him injuring himself

I realize it's important but the guy really couldn't play 15-20 minutes to try and get over it? It really seems like he is taking the ridiculously safe right. Kinda like a person that builds a bomb shelter just in case North Korea drops that nuke on us.

If there's ever a time to be over cautious with your health, it's when you're a 24-year-old professional basketball player who relies on athleticism coming off of major reconstructive knee surgery.

No, not recently. No one has.

To answer OP's question... He's def. one of them in recent history.

He is fully within his rights to be safe and maybe he is right. But I also feel like the criticism/joking he receives is fair at this point.

It's not like there was a similar aged professional basketball player who relies on athleticism coming off of major reconstructive knee surgery at a similar time frame...

OH WAIT. THERE IS. IMAN SHUMPERT TORE HIS ACL ON THE SAME DAY.

And as we know, all athletes bodies are built exactly the same.
