its about what he brings to his team, williams is a larger player and can probably bother paul more since williams is not only larger but also fast. its not about head to head at all. I am sure I can find head to head stats of a scrub and a star player that favor the scrub over a course of an 8-10 game stretch. and i do think the jazz have more talent on their team than the hornets do yet this year paul was able to do more with that hornets team. paul has gotten to a point where he can control the game completely. Like he has the ball and i know he will make a play for himself or someone else. Williams has won games due to his stellar play but he doesnt put the same fear in me that paul does.
as great as paul is right now, deron williams would be destroying him 1 v 1, deron will be better than paul in the long run.
Yes, I think he's the best PG in the league this year. But if I had the luxury to choose, I would probably take DW over him to be on my team, because DW is bigger and stronger. DW simply looks a lot more durable, and is probably better at defense and able to finish stronger. For same reason, I would pick Boozer over Amare on my team. With injuries to our 2 stars, I just think consistency and long-term durability are equally important than talent, if not more sometimes.
What I really like about CP3's game is his ability to keep his defender pinned on his side after a pick and roll. He does this while he's in the paint and it frees up so many options for him... floater, take it all the way in for a layup, alleyoop, etc. It's like he's just camping out in the lane while waiting for something to happen. I haven't seen any pg's do it the way he does.
I used to think he was a punk, but this video gave me a ton more respect for the guy:
Chris Paul has certainly had the best individual season of any player at the point guard position this year. I think that’s pretty much indisputable. And from a team perspective he and his team have been enormously successful in the role he serves. A comparison between Chris Paul and Deron Williams isn’t entirely fair to either player as their roles on their respective teams—though they both play the same position—aren’t necessarily similar beyond the simplified and generalized way we think of a point guard’s duty. Beyond those duties (bringing the ball up, initiating the offense, setting the pace, et cetera), Williams is required, like all players in Utah’s flex offense are required, to move without the ball, curling in and out, and to set an array of screens (in Williams’ case, often near either elbow position), et cetera. He might finish a play by rolling hard baseline to catch-and-shoot. During the most crucial portion of any particular offensive position, Williams might not even have the ball in his hands, though you’re assured he’s doing something, playing his part as merely a cog among the Utah Jazz gearworks. Chris Paul’s role within the Hornet’s offense is of course much different at least most of the time. Each player has their individual advantages and disadvantages, physical and skill-wise, but nothing above or otherwise suggests to me that one is that much better than the other. They’re both terrific individual and team-oriented performers, each with their own roles within their team’s framework that they perform equally well.
c3po, actually not a punk if you've seen him talk or have ever met him. we saw him out in a bar in new orleans last year, and HE actually started talk to us. yeah, he made some bad decisions in college, but who hasnt?
Not sure if I recall this correctly, but I heard on ESPN radio that Paul has ~85 assists and 9 turnovers in the playoffs. That's a 9:1 ratio (I'm a math whiz, I know). 3:1 is considered really great and would rank you near the top. Nine to one is insanity. That's as likely as scoring 100 points in a game.
He is the best PG. But don't forget the history too quickly. Jason Kidd went to the finals two years in a row with K-Mart. We all see what K-Mart is without Kidd. Let's wait for a while till Paul gets to the Finals. Maybe it won't take long, but let's judge then..
Terrible comparison. The Eastern Conference was a joke and still is. Kidd did nothing in the playoffs with Phoenix in a slightly weaker West than today's West. Chris Paul is already better than Jason Kidd ever was in his prime.
Am I the only one thinking Paul is overrated. I agree with some poster said his size is too small to be dominant and he has a decent squad surrounding him, half of his asts come from that high percentage alley-o hoop Francis used to dish out. He is good though, and so is Tony Parker. If there is a Lakers vs Honerts wc final, you will see what I am saying.
"at this rate"?? wtf? Magic won a High School state championship, an NCAA national championship and an NBA world championship in a span of 4 years. High school, then college then pro in f o u r years then he won four more rings. Paul is nowhere close to that "rate" of accomplishment. Not even close. Paul has a lot if catching up to do to be mentioned with Magic Johnson. At this rate, he is not in the discusion, yet. If Paul's results weren't increasing at this rate, this thread wouldn't even exists. If his results were increasing at Magic's rate, the thread title would be "Paul...greatest PG of All time, already?"
He's been dominant this season. So much for the notion he's too small to be dominant. You think "half" of his assists come on alley-oop passes? What a crazy thing to say. Do you even watch the games? I bet you didn't see him one time in the regular season or in the 1st round, otherwise you'd know better. If you think he's overrated, please name all the PGs better than him.
