If the entire team played defense as well as Parsons, then we would be a good defensive team. Just because Durant has a great night doesn't mean Parsons is the worst defender on the team. Durant has been having nights like this a lot this season.

The funny thing is that Chandler played pretty well last night on D, Kevin Durant is just that good.

Parsons has a rep as a good defender because the team was better defensively when he was on the floor(per 100 DefRtg) during his first two seasons.

However this year the numbers show that the team does better defensively when he isn't on the floor. His per 100 DefRtg is (103.7) while the team DefRtg is (102.1). Only TJones(104.9) has a worse DefRtg of the regular rotation players.

Why? Who knows? It could just be a fluke of player substitutions or the fact that he usually switches over to the hottest outside shooter. But even with his height and wingspan he hardly ever alters shots or deflects passes. Guys just shoot over him.

Truehoop TV Live talked about Beverley and Parsons today.

@1 out of durants 42 points last night came on Js...I think ill live with that any day of the week then having him just drive and finish/kick..
He was just on as he has been all year, what happened last night has more to do with coaching then just chandlers D.
Durant cant keep looking at the same frickin Defense all game long, he had it going early, but even if he didnt he would have figured it out by the 2nd quarter.
    A couple of ideas are:
force him to go to a certain direction where we know how and who will close on the rotations OR just double his ass and get the ball out of his hands, so if he does get it back he wont have much time to work with on the shot clock.

But if we keep playing him like yesterday, hell score 35+ every time

Terrence Jones is definitely worse then Harden and Parsons, he always looks so lost. and just gets destroyed in the post.

Who are we going to have out there if Parsons isn't in there? None of our sf's are consistent as Parsons is. After 2 games people were willing to say Parsons is expendable now that Hamilton is on team (and performing well). Who do you suppose we should have out there? Hamilton, Garcia, or Caspi.
Or do you see a sf who could be available for similar price as Parsons who would be an upgrade? Sorry but I think you are underestimating his value to the team on and off the court as a whole.

You can SYDH all you want, but Chandler was there contesting every shot.

What you should do, is educate yourself, so you don't look like such a fool.

    +1

Seriously, there's a reason why KD is the runner up scoring champ, if not the scoring champ

If you play Parsons 45 minutes in a game, maybe he's getting a little tired!

I wouldn't point at the individual players..... The defense as a whole does not handle screens particularly well..... I think because the defense doesn't encounter enough screens in practice (because the offense doesn't set enough of them), we have no clue how to respond to them in a game.

We treat setting screens offensively and handling screens defensively too much as an afterthought..... And that will burn us when elite teams up the intensity during the postseason.

Parsons is like a more versitle korver possibly less a accurate three point shooter. Meaning parsons prolly will never be known as a great defender. We do need a good wing defender but who can really match up with Lebron and Durant. I would of loved to have granger as a defender

Lebron himself said KD can't be guarded...so we can't be too harsh on Parsons

Sad thing is you guys are honestly telling yourselves that this was Parsons worst defensive game this year. He has been regressing in defense since he was valued such a great defender his first year.

He is out of place a lot. I remember laughing EVERY game where he pushes a player because he didn't switch including Brooks and Beverly.

Keep saying KD had a great game because CP has been playing that same defense this whole year.

DD, you said he played great defense on KD, contested every shot. No. Only when Garcia actually came in did KD actually start sweating. I remember laughing at this point thinking Garcia can only play defense on KD and no one else because his defense on everyone else sucks but on KD its like a chemical reaction.

OP, I think you went way overboard in your criticism of Parsons. As others have more or less said, the cat is being used and abused by McHale and the staff, playing too many minutes. The fellow is human, believe it or not. He's getting worn out, like a leather shoe chewed on for hours by a mangy dog. In my humble opinion. I'm cutting him a lot of slack right now and hoping that the bench will step up, so Chandler can sit down from time to time.

If Chandler was the worst defender on the team, why wasn't Hamilton out there shutting down KD?

in this league it's all about the points. parsons is not dumb and knows this. he wants to get paid big time. if he focuses on D too much, his offensive game suffers. this isn't a knock on him...this is true for the majority of players. only a handful of great players can bring it on both ends of the court consistently.

Garcia was playing for life against the Thunder.

Either he relived some of last year's playoff magic or he would be looking for work right now. He's been terrible.

I will agree though, Parsons has seemed to cool off after his hot streak that included a monster 3 pt shooting effort. His shot is back to being just flat enough to eek over the rim. His pump fakes are less effective...perhaps he is playing too much. Hamilton is a legit option and thank god for that because I don't know how much more of Garcia/Casspi clanging 3's I could handle.
