Come on, I think you guys been too hard on Cuttino, it's not really his fault that he can't pass worth a ****. One can't blame a r****d for not being able to think. Some people are just born mentally challenged. However, like the doctors in the mental hospital, it is the coach's job to keep those r****ds where they belong.
Who let you out? Cat's playing hurt, hard and definitely changing his game. I think the jury's out on him until they give him another month of playing to show if he can mesh or not. I think he will. BUT Hawkins is the man. And I like the playing time Eddie G is getting. Cat and MoT coming off the bench with Cato would be a good second team.
I don't understand why everyone wants Cat to come off the bench. I think he can be an excellent starting 2 if he would just pass more and let the offense flow. Scorers who can also pass are invaluable. If yesterday's game is any indication he will have a ton of open looks.
What are you trying to prove, because you adjust your stats to make your argument against Cat make sense every time. Here'a and unbiased list of Cat's stats: FGA per game: 15.4, that ties him at 29 or 30, your choice. APG: 3, that ties him at 59th in the league and not 107th. Hmm, why would you want to change it to AP 48 minutes to make it look worse than it is??? Why, I ask, Why? While your at it, why don't you give us his FGA per 48 minutes? It would be 17.6, that should save you the trouble. Seriously, I can't comprehend why you would "FIX" your stats to make him look worse. What's the point of doing that?
1st of all, Im not "trying" to fix anything. I didnt realize there was a FGA/Game tab the first time. Once I realized it, I made the adjustment. Second, I used the Assists per 48 minutes because it factors in minutes played (I would use the FGA/Minutes played except the category is not calculated). Last, your contention is amazingly weak. he's shooting less therefore he's not a shot jacker? That's the most pathetic attempt at logic Ive ever seen. He shot way too much last year (partly due to injuries). Even assuming he's back to his norm, it's still too much relative to his assists. To put into perspective, Brad Miller plays 31 minutes per game and averages more assists than Cuttino Mobley who plays 42 minutes By the way, Brad Miller is a Center. How much clearer is that? Name me 1 Starting SG in this league that plays as many minutes as Mobley and averages less assists. Ive never said Cuttino isnt good or he shouldnt start. He just needs to shoot less and pass more. Seriously, are you Cuttino's mom or something?
All right, lets get more in depth then. Just cuz Cuttino doesn't average 5 or 6 assists, does that mean that he's hogging the ball? That's what we're really arguing about, you think he's a ball hog and I don't. Ball movement is important, but just because you pass the ball, doesn't mean you are going to get an assist. So if Cat is swinging the ball around and it takes another player and extra pass to hit an open man, technically, he doesn't get any kind of credit for it, but that doesn't mean he didn't contribute. So what is your point. This all started when you said that Cat gets physically ill when he doesn't shoot and that he would rather improve his stats than win a game. I'm trying to tell you that he doesn't shoot as much anymore and that his assists are up. That's improvement. But for you it isn't enough I guess, you want him to just morph into Kobe Bryant or something.
cat's injury is not a blessing. It would be a blessing if we were trying to get rid of him but we are not. so it's not a blessing.
His shots are down: 2000-2001 he attempted 15.4 shots/game. 2001-2002, he attempted 18.4 shots/game 2002-2003, he averages 15.4 shots/game after 10 games. How is what he's doing this year any diffrent than previous years? Last year was a fluke. Everyone on the team was injured. Was that his fault? No. He had to shoot more b/c Steve Francis was hurt. However, now that Steve's back, he's taking as many shots as he did in 2000-2001. Assists: 2000-2001 74 games he averaged 2.5 assists per game 2001-2002 79 games he averaged 2.5 assists 2002-2003 10 games he's averaged 3 assists. Are you really jumping to the conclusion that he is passing a lot more b/c he's averaing .5 more assists after 10 games? As far as assists arent necessarily a good indicator of someone who passes: These are the leading assists leaders- Gary Payton, Baron Davis Jason Kidd S. Marbury Jason Terry Eric Snow, Steve Nash Andre Miller J. Tinsley John Stockton Is this a fluke? No, if you pass more you will have more assists. yes, someone else may make another pass and you dont get credit, but that will happen to these people too.
That's a nice list of Point Guards you got there, I didn't know Cat had changed positions. So you want him to take less than 15 shots per game? That was the year we won 45 games by the way. That team had other scoring options too, like Mo Taylor and Olajuwon who combined for 20 shots per game. I still don't see how Cat taking 15 shots is a problem? Especially since we know he can hit more of those shots when his ankles are better.
LMAO, talk about twisting things in your favor. You said that assists werent a good indicator of passing. I brought up the overall assist leader to show what a coicedence it was that the people who are considered the league's best passers also lead in that category. If I wanted to twist things like you do, I wouldve added numbers. I didnt b/c the numbers are irrelvant b/c they don't play the same position. By the way, Cuttino is 27th in the league among shooting guards in assists. As Yao Ming continues to develop his offensive game, it would be insane for Cuttino to jack up the same shots as he did in 2000-2001. Thats what Cuttino will be dealing with soon. People havent realized how much he shoots but they will soon. When Ming has his hands raised and Cuttino jacks up a shot, these things will be revealed. Of course if he does improve his passing, that will be a blessing for all of us.
No one should ever, EVER argue that Cuttino Mobley is a decent passer or isn't a ballhog. The guy is one of the worst passing gaurds in the NBA, hands down. There is no way to if, and, or but it. The question is does his scoring ability fit in with our team? Considering we already have Francis, Yao is developing, EG is getting better, and Rice/Mo T do nothing but shoot I don't think Cat fits in well with our team. We need a defender, we need a distributor, we need someone who can comprehend what an offensive scheme is. Cat can not do this and hasn't since he's been here. He does one thing, provide instant offense as a one-on-one player. Certain teams may need this, heck we could even use if it it's coming off the bench. However, when Steve, Rice, Mo/EG, and Yao are in the lineup another shot jacker is definitely not who we need.
Your argument is the week one. Who cares if his shots are down? So he is only taking 15 bad shots per game. It doesn't change the fact that he is not a smart player and makes way to many bad decisions. The Dallas game is the first game I can remember where Cat actually made 2 smart basketball decisions in the same game. Hawkins should be starting, if you cant see that you need to lay off the Catnip! Hawkind brings everything to the table we need from our 2 guard. Good solid defense, the ability to hit the open jump shot and good decision making. OPEN JUMP SHOT are the key words in the last sentence.
Ya'll Mobley haters are crazy. This guy is good, he can shoot the f'ing daylights out. Last season everyone was bashing him cause he shot too much, besides that fact that he was making a sh!tload of them, and that he doesn't pass enuf. Alright then.. This season he doesn't shoot as much, he passes more and now we know his shots haven't been falling as much because of his ankles. This guy is sitting here playing through pain trying to improve. He knows there are plenty of other scorers on the team and we know he is determined to win, and to help his team to win. This guy's mentality is awesome.. and he's come through for us plenty of times when we needed him most. Every season his role on the team has changed and he never complains at all. Do you understand how much other teams would love to have such a player on their team?? Is he the best 2 guard, the best shooter, the best passer? Hell no. But this guy is playing for well below his market value and a fantastic player.
u know what I mean man, we all know he can shoot, just look at the the second half of last season, this guy went nuts scoring.
Hawkins 22 mpg 3.4 ppg 34% FG 25% 3pt Don't you think you're overreacting just a little bit? After all, he has only made 15 of his 43 shots. Mobley shot 40% from behind the arc last season. Hawkins was advertised as not having much of an offensive game, and so far he hasn't proved otherwise. One good game doesn't change that.
What is this obsession with stats? Just watch the game people: Look at the shots Cuttino takes. Does the guy not consistently take off balance shots with defenders in his face? Does the offensive flow not look much much better with Cuttino injured or not playing? Cuttino is the classic mediocre player who puts up stats on a bad team. His style of bball is streetball and not conducive to WINNING in the NBA. The team is better with Hawkins in there, I don't give a damn about the stats. Hawkins defensively is on a planet Cuttino can never dream of. This team is better off without Cuttino Mobley. For the record, I've never seen a bigger ballhog in my life, Dominique Wilkins included. Do some of you Cuttino lovers actually want the Rockets to win or for Cuttino to keep putting up garbage stats?
I can't believe Juaquin Hawkins is so good, so I am going to say Cat's injury is a blessing, kind of like francis's was.
