Did anyone acutally look at their rookie-year numbers? Points per 36 min Rudy: 14.5 Bud: 15.9 Rebounds per 36 min Rudy: 6.0 Bud: 5.3 Assist per 36 Rudy: 1.7 Bud: 2.1 TS%: Rudy: .497 Bud: .545 Turnover %: Rudy: 14.1 Bud: 7.4 Minutes Per game: Rudy: 27.0 Bud: 20.1 Rudy got more minutes (probably because he was on a crappier team-- which may also make it harder for him to score efficiently), but otherwise Budinger compares pretty well with Rudy.
by the way you asked in the poll, I cant answer, I dont have enough information, only budinger can answer to that question.
Shades of Mosby! This will not be a Civil War if a rebel Clutchfans faction tries to attach a "Gay Ghost" moniker to Bud.
I think Chase can be a legitimate starter in this league, and I haven't really seen quite enough of Gay play to judge how far he has come (other than looking at his numbers) ... but I think there are 2 things that skew this comparison: - Budinger was much more polished coming out of college compared to Gay, by all accounts. I think teams actually weren't drafting him because they thought he had hit a ceiling. - Gay did not have the privilege of playing in Rick Adelman's offense with bonafide scorers like Aaron Brooks, Kevin Martin, Scola, Landry, etc. He had Pau Gasol and Mike Miller, neither of whom can create scoring opportunities for other players.
OK Carl, I love your posts... hate your posts... and sometimes... simply respectfully disagree. This time... I slept on this... and the only thing I can say is no. And it's not because Gay isn't a good comparison. He is a decent one. However, it's not accurate to what Chase is. Budinger is Budinger. Let's give him that. He's not any other player, so let's not pretend. Pretty soon we'll be calling some hot shot rookie the ghost of Budinger. Let's celebrate Budinger for what he is. He's a great catch.
What about the fact that they are within two different systems with separate variables? There is no control within this comparison.
