that was a typo..what i was trying to say was that jordan was first option when he won 6 rings, kobe was second option
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??????? Jordan was a 9-Time All NBA Defensive First Team AND a Defensive Player of the Year once. Kobe is a great defender, but not "as good if not better" on the defensive end...that's ridiculous
Kobe is a leech. He sucks the life out of the players around him to make himself better. He needs to take a ton of shots throughout the course of the game just so that he can get warmed up for the final 6 minutes and look amazing. Taking 44 shots while everyone else takes less than 9 shots is ridiculous. If TMac were allowed to practice shooting 40 times, his 41st, 42nd, 43rd, and 44th shots would be pretty damn amazing too.
If you've seen the entire Lakers season, then you'll know that Kobe hasn't been a leech. He's been scoring freakish totals lately because no one else on the team has picked up the slack despite most of his teammates coming back from injuries. I wouldn't consider Kobe better than Jordan, but give him credit where it's due.
Jordan wouldnt have traveled on that last play. Jordan's left nut > Kobe. Kobe is just the best player now. Jordan is the best EVER.
I think Refs would have never called that travel on MJ. But again, MJ wouldn't have fouled T-Mac on that 3pts attempt. That was the turning point of the game. Rox was almost dead before that.
This might also put things into perspective: http://www.nba.com/jordan/50games.html Mike only shot under 50% in one of his 50 point games and he was 15 for 31 so he was just barely under 50%. I don't have the stats handy but I know the last two times Kobe has scored 50 on the Rockets he has shot way below 50%. Guys who put up huge scoring nights but can't make half their shots are typically considered ball hogs.
Jordan's career shooting percentage was .497, and that included a couple of down years at Washington. He shot .535 the year he avearaged 35.0 points. Kobe, in contrast, has a .452 career shooting averaged and shot .450 the year he averaged 35.4 points.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=126506 Was there really a need for another thread on this in a week? Kobe's a better all-around scorer, and *might* be as clutch, but he's NOT a better player than Jordan. Defense, leadership, commitment to win, etc. It's easy to toss in the pre-Scottie argument, but look at MJ's year in 1988 and you'll see really quick that Kobe doesn't measure up. Evan
When will this end? i agree wit hte poster who asked if we really needed two threads about this in a weeks time. Kobe's obviously a great player (the best in the game today) but you are comparing him to the BEST player ever. I don't think some comprehend what Jordan did. For those who think Kobe's better, go look up Jordan's accomplishments and get back to me. Every time Kobe goes on a scoring run or does something amazing we have to hear this stuff (even an ESPN writer who obviously has no business covering the NBA said it). Go back and watch tapes of MJ, watch how he took over games, his defense (which is far superiors to Kobe's which is overrated in my opinion) and his overall game in general. Jordan did everything better then Kobe. There is no comparison. Let Kobe Bryant be Kobe Bryant because there's certainly nothing wrong with that. He's an amzing player, he's not Jordan. Go youtube MJ because I think part of this stems from the fact that people don't remember how great Jordan really was
Kobe is a great player, but he is no MJ. Kobe can score in mj's league but that is it. He's a good defender, but not as good as mj. But where it really seperates him is in the W's. Kobe has yet to win by himself, while MJ did. Jordan would do anything to win even if that included making the pass to a teamate, I still dont think Kobe is willing to do that. In the end Micheal is a great team player who makes everyone better, Kobe does not.
I hate it when people say Jordan won by himself. The Bulls without Jordan in 94 won 55 games in the regular season. Only 2 less than the previous year when they won their third championship. Pippen, Kukoc, Rodman, Grant, Cartwright, Paxson, Kerr were no slouches. Rodman, Harper and Kerr won championships on other teams. Jordan had losing season his first 3 years in league and only reached 50 wins once in his first five seasons when he didn't have help. Jordan was great and maybe was the best of all time but I think his legend has grown beyond reality.
Unreal that most people in this thread actually believe Kobe is better than MJ. MJ DEFINED the NBA. I'll take MJ in his prime any day over Kobe. He not only was the most dominant offensive player ever, he was a premier defender, made his teammates around him better (something Kobe does not), and no where near as dirty as Kobe (b*tch slapping defenders while shooting). And you can argue the results. Imagine what MJ and Shaq would have done together. I can guarantee you this, MJ would never have driven Shaq out of LA and that would have meant a decades worth of championships. Kobe is much more selfish than MJ. MJ was more about winning than anything else, go ahead and compare their win/loss record over the same amount of seasons and you can see for yourself. Ok, so you talk about the players MJ had around him when he was racking up championships. This only proves why MJ was without equal. He made guys like Bill Cartwright, Paxson, Craig Hodges, Horace Grant, Toni Kukoc, BJ Armstrong, Steve Kerr, and he MADE Scottie Pippen! Many, many players owe their successes and mad money to the greatness that was MJ. Honestly, can you say that about Kobe? This shouldn't even be debated. Not even close.
