You could always just modify it, I dont understand the .44 weighting myself but if you make it an even 50 Im pretty sure the results wont change that dramatically.
.44 accounts for the fact that 2 ft's doesn't always equal a possession. sometimes you get 3 ft's from getting fouled on a 3, or you get an and 1, which doesn't use up a possession. either way, getting 10 ft's doesn't automatically equal 5 possessions. it could be 4 fouls, one on a 3, plus an and 1, so you only used 4. i assume .44 is just a league-wide general average that doesn't change very much over time or even much player to player.
