Bosh put up good numbers on a crappy team and barely carried them in an obviously less competitive eastern conference. Honestly, from what I have seen of Bosh, he has talent, but Bosh is overrated. The fact is, dude is poised to be another Tracy McGrady the way he gets talked about and for the amount he has done. Wait, he has actually done LESS then McGrady when we traded for him.
I agree... Bosh is way overhyped. He is good but not great. Rockets will not become contenders because of Bosh. BUT, maybe he could be used as another chip for Morey to continually trade upwards. You guys have heard of the story about a guy who started out with a paper clip and eventually traded up to a house? Whatever happens, In More I Trust =P
none of those guys were on a losing team 6/7 seasons in the NBA, NO ONE. Having a couple off seasons is no big deal, being a career loser is totally different. Those guys I listed make the playoffs or have winning records more often than not. Bosh has a losing record more often than not.
He's done way less than T-Mac. T-Mac finished 4th in MVP voting for back to back seasons. He took a much worse team than the Raptors of last year to the playoffs. I mean, there's no way a superstar franchise player does not make the playoff with that line up.
4th in MVP voting? Is that something to brag about? Really? As for winning seasons, Tracy played 4 years in Orlando. Had 2 winning seasons, and two non-winning seasons. He had to work with a lot of has beens like Kemp, Hill, and Ewing those 4 years so he did not have much help. I'll give him that... But people are acting like Bosh just has had this list of all-stars to work with. I'm going to do this again I see. Bosh was thrust into a major role at 19 years old. The Last All-star to play for Toronto was Vince Carter...think about that. Bosh has been the only all-star on his team since his stint. Since Carter left the young Bosh and his era began. It seems everyone wants to mention about his failures (Not being Lebron James and taking his team to the finals) and forget at 22 he won his team the division title...oh and then i'll be told "Yeah, but then he lost in the first round lol." okay at 22 years old. Did Roy or Durant win their First series? Not many players do. His current lineup is no good. Calderon is a poor man's Nash...just like Nash he plays no D..and unlike Nash he's not much of a scorer. They have some of the worst wingmen in the NBA, why do you think they spend all that money on Hedo and draft DeRozan? Hedo isn't a all-star player. And Bargs is a poor mans Dirk. Also their bench is horrible. You see you put good players on a good team, and they start winning. It is a superstar driven league, but TEAMS win championships. How about all those years where people thought "LOL Kobe can't win without Shaq!" no Kobe can't win without other talented players on his team. What about when Garnett had no help? People begin to say he's overrated. That wasn't true at all. People just expect everyone to be Lebron or Hakeem and carry their team to the promise land. Gasol is a top 5 PF now, but a few years ago he was not. What happened? He went to LAL, that is the only thing that has changed. Also lets not forget Martin is the same way. He has put up big numbers on bad teams, that doesn't mean he can't be a great player. It means he's played on bad teams. That's it. Don't try to over analyze it.
Bosh won`t be the go-to guy on a championship caliber team... but he will get you 20-25 pg and 10-12 rpg, while playing good help D. Franchise player? On an Adelman team I´d say yes! He ain`t the player that you build your entire team around, but he is the kinda player that will always carry a big chunk of the load for you. A player like LeBron doesn`t really fit in this offense (yeah, we`d make him fit somehow) - a player like Bosh does. We just need the right supporting cast around him. If we can keep Brooks, Martin, Chase, Arize/Battier, Scola/Hill and Yao around I think we have just that. It´d still be nice to get a defensive center, but other than that I believe the pieces would all be there.
Because he's not talking stats or winning percentage - just talking about the guys you build your franchise around. That's the definition of a franchise player. I don't think you build your franchise around Bosh. He's very good. And almost makes that list, but the thing that gives me pause is that he hasn't played 82 games in a season yet - and that's a bit troubling. I'd be careful about giving him too long of a contract.
I almost think that to be a franchise player you need to be able to create your own shot. Bosh to me, is an all star player, but he is not a guy that I would want to pay max money to, he does not elevate his teamates. People have brought up Garnett and Gasol, and I think those are excellent examples.......neither of them are franchise players either.....they are all star players who need better players around them to help them succeed. If we got Bosh, who would be our better player who can create a shot, around him? Brooks? Martin? Budinger? Who? DD
I dont know if you have been watching the playoffs but Gasol has clearly been better than Kobe this year.
Garnett, Gasol, Duncan, or Bosh all play less than 82 games a season. It didn't stop them from getting rings.
I think we have a different view of franchise player. If a guy can be a big piece to a contending team, he's a franchise player IN MY MIND at least. Because Duncan would not have the team success without Manu or Tony...but then again no one would build their teams around Manu or Tony...but at the same time the Spurs success depended largely on those two guys and for some series, more than Duncan. Bosh would share his opportunities with Brooks, Martin, or Yao. It would be very much like the Detroit team in that any one of our 5 starters can have a huge day and beat you. Or even the recent Boston team that has 5 players that can have a big day on you any given night. The elevating Teammates thing is something that is rare. You see it from guys like Lebron, Hakeem, Jordan, Magic, Bird. To me those are guys that elevate their teammates. Bosh isn't even going to have to do that here, Brooks, Martin, Yao, can all create their own shots. Chase, Scola, and Lowry can even create their own shots depending on the matchup. He will not have to do the heavy lifting he did in Toronto and only his legacy will decide on whether or not he was a franchise player.
Yeah, 4th in MVP voting is not easy. Do you think Lebron, Dwight, Dwayne Wade, Durant or Kobe are not franchise players?
Nowitki is more of SF in a PF's body. He doesn't rebound in the playoffs. He got outrebounded by George Hill and Jason Kidd.
Right, when he had David Robinson. Another guy, who clearly wasnt a franchise player going by the ridiculous standards set forth on this board.
When they were franchise players they played in 95%+ of the games. Duncan had many 82 game seasons. Right now, they are not franchise players - Garnett is old, so is Duncan, you wouldn't build around them anymore. Gasol was never a franchise player. We're talking about franchise players - not getting rings here - Robert Horry got tons of rings too - was he a franchise player? Stick to topic man.
Not saying it's easy Those guys are, but Tmac was not. 4th place is not something i'd brag about though. How many votes is that? I'm wondering because I never hear about who finished 4th in MVP voting. Usually who finished 2nd, but 4th?
