Yes, lets blame McNair for this god-awful defense of ours.

Eight seasons and counting with no playoff appearances. Gonna be nine soon.

Actually... you can spread some blame around to Uncle Bob. He's the one that chose to not upgrade the secondary and get us any help this past offseason.

Then again, it could be that idiot Rick Smith... but I suspect it's Uncle Bob at the core.

Bud Adams moved the effin team. He is the worst owner in Houston history. McMullen would be number two. He was notoriously cheap and let Nolan Ryan walk. Ryan went on to set all kinds of records with that other Texas team.

But that makes them jerks. It does not make them inept. McMullen had two playoffs in the pre-Wild Card era. Bud Adams had multiple Houston teams make the playoffs. Once again, it's not about being a jerk, it's about competence. Bob McNair is a nice guy by all appearances, but he has run an incompetent franchise.

Your thread title and original post ask different questions. You asked who is the worst owner in the last 30 years. Anyway the Oilers first 8 years in the NFL they won 35% of their games. The Texans won 38% of their games, so Bud is still more inept.

You do realize the NFL has a salary cap, right? It isn't like he can go Yankees style to gobble up free agents.

Anybody who thinks McNair is the worst owner in Houston of the last 30 years is likely a lot less than 30 years old. Maybe they are older than that and just not paying attention.

If you own a team in Houston and move that team out of town...it makes you the worst owner in Houston sports history. Maybe not inept, but I cannot fathom a scenario in which an owner can do worse by his fanbase.

No, I was asking who was the worst in terms of competence. And you seem to have forgotten about the AFL years. Bud simply blows McNair away no matter how you look at it.

Tell me who's been more incompetent? It can't be Bud or John McMullen or Charlie Thomas. So who is it?

Maybe, a candidate in Houston history, but definitely not sports all time. And, how is he worst than Bud Adams, if we are talking about Houston. Especially, if we are talking about character.

Alot of these are off the top of my head

The York Family (San Francisco 49ers)
    Hugh Culverhouse (The old Buccaneers)
    The Rankin Family (Atlanta Falcons)
    The Tribune Company (Chicago Cubs)
Wayne Huizenga (Florida Marlins, one year Alex Rodriguez made more than the entire Florida Marlins roster)
    Daniel Snyder (Washington Redskins)
    Marge Schott (Cincinnati Reds)
    James Dolan (New York Knicks)
    Peter Angelos
    William Ford (Detroit LIons)
Art Modell (Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts years, they were so bad and poorly run at that point, that John Elway said if they drafted him, he wouldn't play or sign a contract and would go play baseball, there was also an organization rivalry of sorts between Modell and Paul Brown in the 60s).

You better be glad the Texans are not owned by an apathetic about sports conglomerate or an owner whose only purpose is to generate a nice profit, regardless of the team's accomplishments on the field.

I just compared apples to apples and proved that the Texans were better than the Oilers in each teams first 8 years in the NFL. How is Bud blowing McNair away. You have absolutely zero objective evidence to back up your claim.

In the Oilers first two years in existence they won the AFL championship both years.

He'sa decent owner. I was a little dissapointed the Texans did nothing this off-season but I think that was more management.

They should have signed some guys this offseason though cromartie,TO,boldin, marshal peppers. If they just land one of those guys I think they have another win or two.

Him giving Kubiak an extension was stupid though. If he brings him back next year I will be more critical of him.....

And the Comets won a championship their first two years in existence. Its irrelevant because its not the same as an NFL expansion team, you can't compare the two.

The Texans are the 10th most valuable sports franchise in the world already so i'd have to say 'no' to him being inept.
