Yeah, and? Not all stats can be quantified the same. I don't think that you can tell me with a straight face that magnetic transfer has the same quality as digital.

Watched 'Wall-E" and it looked amazing on Blu-Ray. I bought the Godfather 1,2,3 on BR too. Waiting for a sick day to watch all of them.

From my experience a brand new VHS tape vs a DVD was ALMOST equal in quality. One of the DVD selling points was that the quality would still be the same over time whereas the VHS tape gets worn out and the quality would start to suffer. I was never wowed when we went from VHS to DVD. We were just happy we could watch it over and over and over again which was a big thing for us since we wore the crap out of movies.

I know i can for the most part tell the difference between DVD and Blu-ray. I go to Frys weekly and one time they were playing iron man. I looked at it and knew immediately it was the DVD version. I asked the rep why they put a DVD in the blu-ray player. He insisted it was the blu-ray but I asked him to open it up and lo and behold, it was the DVD.

Now the argument against me would be that when I was younger we probably didn't have a TV that could take advantage of DVD just like those that are watching blu-ray on a SDTV so the differences between VHS and DVD weren't immediately apparent as far as PQ goes.

Probably you had a crappy player and worn out tapes.

I don't disagree with you with that point.

I was there since the Atari dude. I remember SEGA having the lead, then SNES came, it sold moderately. Then when SF2 dropped, you know how hard it was to find a SNES at Babbages?

There has to to be turning point, like in a basketball game a key play that changes the momentum, and SF2 was the key play.

    no doubt about it.

Are you saying that the MVP from the 1994 NBA season is the same as the MVP from the 1995 season?

Don't go to the doctor, cabrón, they're gonna tell you something's wrong with you... don't go...

You probably say this because you were comparing to a DVD that was around when you could still get a new VHS tape.

That's probably true but isn't it unfair to compare an worn out VHS to a DVD? I thought we were talking about the peak quality of each medium.

I don't doubt the quality of DVD is vastly superior over a VHS that has been watched 500 times and was stored away in a moist and dark storage cabinet for 15 years.

The SNES sold moderately at launch? Are you nuts?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System

Also, this article seems to imply that what helped put SNES over the top was a change in policy with regards to censorship (Mortal Kombat is specifically mentioned) and the fact that Sega began work on the Saturn instead of continuing to support the Genesis.

blu-ray makes everything better...If you have the right system/set-up, you'll never go back...

Just watch any action movie (say, Transformers) on HBO HD and you'll understand why blu-ray is awesome...When an action movie is played in HD on HBO or whatever, you'll notice a break in the picture as it's too fast to keep up...

btw, I'm of the opinion that you don't need to have cartoons/animation in blu-ray...it's a f'n cartoon...what am I going to see, Wall-e's ass hair in space...Cinderella's ass hair...hmmm...

Yeah I think I totally agree with you.

You also have to take into account that at the time you could get a new VHS, DVD's were not at their peak.

Just to clarify we are not arguing. ;) I think we both agree.

Yeah, DVDs weren't at their best most likely at the time but then again neither were the TVs i was watching on so that might have accounted for me not being able to notice the huge difference between DVD and VHS.

I need to find some kind of splitter to have 2 optical cords going into my home theater.

I don't have enough inputs, and i keep having to unplug my digital caple Optical audio cord to plug in the one on the PS3....(my HT doesn't have HDMI in, just standard rca and optical).

Well, my Bluray player (mentioned in the black friday thread) arrived today from Sony. FedEx left it sitting on my porch as I requested. Had I know it was in the original Bluray box for all the world to see I would have had them hold it until I could have signed for it.

Anyway, I haven't had a chance to hook it up yet, but am looking forward to it later tonight. A couple questions:

*Should I go ahead and hook up my ethernet cable and see if I need anytype of upgrade?

*I need a couple of HDMI cables. There's an online place that's been mentioned here before for good deals on cables and such...can anyone remember the site? I bought the cheapest one I could find at Fry's today at it was $19 for a 3 foot cable.
