Damn! I didn't know they dropped it that much. I bought it for about $100. It is a cool series though. Definitely shows off the HD. That shark scene is awesome.

In short, Blu-Ray is a beast!!!

ok, so I have a panasonic 42" plasma LCD tv. the best it can output is 1080i. is it still worth getting a blue ray player? I mean I know everyone says "50' + 1080p is the way to go" but would I still be getting "siginficantly better" quality than my average dvd player?

yeah Dolby TrueHD is a very nice sounding format. The difference is quality is easily heard compared to Dolby Digital 5.1

What I did not ever think about when building the system was how with higher quality signal the range of volume in the soundtrack increase so much.

A whisper is like a whisper and a train scares the crap out of you.

Laserdisc was better than VHS. Blu-Ray meet your fate.

Netflix doesn't charge extra for blurays if you want to watch HD movies without paying more.

Plus, unless I'm not remembering correctly they weren't all that small.

As for the price, yeah that is a turnoff. I usually only buy the really good ones on Blu-Ray. The Dark Knight will defiinitely be one of of the purchased.

witht he PS3 upscaling, and the higher cost of old crappy Blu-Ray titles, I still buy DVDs.
In a few years the cost will come down.

at 67" YES Blu-ray makes a huge difference. every little flaw is exposed at that size so I have to have HD. My biggest complaint about HD is u-verse. Their HD isnt even close to DVD-upscaled quality. Sucks so bad. Everytime I watch I get so turned off. :(.

yes it does matter. if you don't have a tv that can handle the resolution and colors, then bluray would look like dvd.

yeah you'll notice. all the high definition disc have better color and the native material is high def.

the whole 1080i/720p is worse than 1080p is overrated. i have a 720p and my highdef/hd dvd/xbox/bluray etc looks awesome.

i would take a name brand 720p over el-cheap brand 1080p any day of the week. however if i do get another tv that's 50in+, it will be 1080p

I buy BD also but if I want a movie that is not available on BD i have no problem going dvd still.

Also most BDs still cost to much.

If you shop around you can find almost any Bluray movie for under $20 if you grab a deal. Just like when DVDs were new.

I'm guessing by next year, almost all new Bluray releases will be under $20 and the older titles will sell between $10-$15.

I don't think price will be that big of a factor within 18 months. The prices of players have already fallen within the $200 range.

the big issue is more titles rather than price.
