Star Trek Original series is far, far better, imo.

    (Spartacus Blood & Sand ftw!)

I enjoyed BSG quite a bit and think it deserves praise but I was troubled by the how they crammed in so much in the last half season and at that point it felt kind of forced. Another thing I didn't like about BSG was that they often went out of their way to make the characters dysfunctional. While acknowledging human (and Cylon) flaws and having character development is great I was often left wondering how did any of these people end up in the positions that they were when they so often seemed lacking in professionalism and unable to deal rationally in crisis.

Deep Space Nine to me was the show that best struck that balance. While the characters had flaws and doubts about themselves they were professionals who acted like professionals.

No one has mentioned Deadwood or Jericho as being better than Battlestar Galactica? Let me be the first. But yeah, BSG is a great show.

Because it's not a "mob show". It's a family drama, in a mob context. I have never watched a show where there aren't several characters I absolutely hate and cannot root for. The Sopranos is different.

Further, you won't find better writing. And for a drama, the comedy is absolutely perfect.

If you want to watch one episode, watch "Pine Barrens". You don't really need to know the context as it's sort of a story in its own. Watch that and tell me you don't see what's original or entertaining.

Where are the rest of the Sopranos supporters?

No love for Babylon 5 -- written by J. Michael Straczynski.

It's pretty damn good. But I'd still rank it behind Farscape & Babylon 5 on my list of greatest Sci-Fi Series.

Jericho was great, too bad it was cancelled.

Probably one of the most underrated shows ever. CBS did 'em wrong, but at least they caved to fan pressure and let them tie up a lot of the loose ends.

B5 and DS9 are my favorite all-time sci-fi shows. Both started a little slow over the first couple of seasons but hit their stride in a way that has been rarely matched since IMO. DS9 also had the most awesome ending. Very well done. I was hurting for a while after the final scene.

I'll give BSG credit for a couple of years when it was clearly the best show out there but it couldn't sustain.

I also recently watched the BSG series, thanks to Netflix streaming. I thought it was great....aside from S3 kicking off the dreaded over-emphasis on soap drama. And it felt like the final season suffered from constant whiplash with "time to tie it all up" writing.

The revelation of the Final 5 was horrible. Nearly ruined the entire series. Not that it was who it was...but how they executed it.

I liked the actual ending of it, for the most part.

Firefly is absolutely overrated. Serenity made up for it in spades.

Here are/were my feelings on BSG:

    *Seasons 1-3*
WOW! THIS IS THE BEST SHOW EVARRR!
This is more epic than Star Wars!
I can't wait till the next episode.
I'm gonna buy the eventual super-ultra special edition box set!

    *Season 4*
What is happening to my show?!
Oh man, this is really sucking.
I'm not giving up yet, they can still salvage this...
    Nevermind, they didn't.

    *Post-BSG*
    Man, that sucked.

I still haven't decided what to feel on the show. I can't deny that I really enjoyed the ride, and it was definitely on trajectory to be the best sci-fi stories ever (though, that's a pretty low standard), if not one of the best tv series in general... but the ending!!! SO. BAD. I guess I'm still not over it. I have scores of friends who feel the same way. Oh well.

Oh, and I can't pass up an opportunity to dog on Firefly/Serenity. That stuff is typical campy sci-fi. No thanks.

Yeaup, that looks good to me. This is pretty much the order in which they were released, which is the way I watched it. Some will suggest to watch some of the webisodes or movies (particularly Razor) at different spots since they don't necessarily fit chronologically in the order of release; however, doing this will prematurely introduce story arcs and foreshadow things that shouldn't be revealed yet... at least for a first-time viewing. Anyway, all that to say, watch it in the order you have listed. I myself have stalled at Caprica...

The first & final seasons were meh. But the last few of season 1 until the end of the 4th were incredible. The Shadow War was terrific.

Netflix has indeed allowed me to catch shows I would normally have missed, am watching "The legend of the seeker" right now, a kind of fantasy style of show with some real quality production values.

    And some uber hot babes.

I would say the ending of DS9 was one of it's weakest parts, but then, I was never a big fan of Odo or Deus Ex Machina.

Yeah, I am in the middle of season 2, and it is sort of dying out.....although I do like Cara, the whole Underworld story line is not that great.

    I miss Darkhan Rahl...
