Not true. They have, and have had, many people that size and athleticism. Currently they list 50 and Escalade, who is a fat ass, are on their roster at over 6-8. ANd I'm pretty sure their vertical is at or near that of Malik. Not only that, the Harlem Globetrotters have several guys as big or bigger than Malick, who not only can run and jump as high as he can, but probably have better basketball resumes as well, having prospered at low-level D-I programs, and having actually made pre-season, and regular season rosters for a cup of coffee - something Badiane is not close to doing. Unsurprisingly, they all probably had their shots in NBA training camps and didn't hack it -- which is why they're on the Trotters, and why Badiane is a backup for a German team. If he was something, he'd be somewhere. He's nowhere, and has had several years to try. Yes, he's a lot like Tyrus Thomas, just minus the strength, skill, and athletic ability, nbadraft.net's opinion notwithstanding. If he sees ONE SINGLE GAME in a Rockets roster it would be a miracle. Master P and Roy Jones Jr. are available though...
How did we get 42 posts about the Bad man with out a single slam on his complete lack af ability by Ill-Skillz. Somebody put out an APB on him cuz I'm starting to worry about him. He is missing in action!!!!!!
I was in Dallas for a few days and missed this thread. Thanks for worrying about me. He will have to kick JVG's ass on a daily basis to get a sniff at making the roster. Badiain't sucks. Why do people get wrapped up in a guy who they admit is a multi year overseas project that, at most, would be a third string center if he ever joined the Rockets?
Because he has only been playing basketball for four years of his life and has the physical gift to be an excellent contributor given enough experience and drive. project. could go either way. when is the last time you saw him play? Cheers, Brock
project and raw are never good things to hear about a player. it means he sucks. when was the last raw project that actually played?
Where did you get that he's been only playing for four years? Do you think he was just off in the jungle hunting monkeys before his current squad? I don't think so. I can tell you which way he's going: nowhere, based solely on the odds and the fact he hasn't done anything yet. I don't have to see him play to know he sucks. When was the last time you saw me play? But you do know that I suck and am not going to make the Rockets, right?
You don't realize that 6-11 barefoot and 38 inches of hops is extremely RARE. I will say again extremely rare.
It's a 32 inch vertical, allegedly, not 38. http://www.basslinespin.com/BadianeMalick.htm if you're telling me that there's no 6-10 big men on the Harlem Trotters, the And-1 tour, down at Rucker, and in any number of hundreds of D-1 basketbal programs in the NCAA who can approach these numbers and jump around 30 inches (and in fact there are many who can probably do far better) - that's just wrong, dead wrong (hell Kelvin Cato can do that, of course compared to Badiane he's Oscar Robertson, skills wise) For general reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verts_of_the_NBA Just like it's wrong that he's a rare prospect, as evidenced by the fact that he can't get a cup of coffee in the NBA. Hey, 7-7 with a 17 inch vert is rare but Gheorge Muresan doesn't have a job anymore. Of course he's a hall of famer compared to Badiane's NBA career.
I can't remember exactly what age he started playing. but it was like 16 or 17 or 18... so maybe he has been playing for six years. either way, if he has the will he will make it to the nba. might be a few years. might be next year.
No it's a 32 inch off a stand still and a 38 off one step, the SAME as young KG, pre-injury Amare had 36 off a stand and 38 off one step. Swift has a 40 of one step and he's 6-9 1/2 barefoot. Believe me that's a rare combination of size and athletisicm.
source? I can't find this information anywhere. Even if it is true, and I have my doubts. it is a rare combination that will never play for the Rockets, or the NBA, or even the And-1 tour; so he might as well be 4 feet tall - because he can't translate it to a game. YOu're also highly underestimating the ability of other non-NBA talents. We had a 6-8 guy at my lower tier D-1 program who could jump out of the gym, and averaged close to a double double. He of course had no chance at all of ever playing in the NBA and was working at the Timberland outlet the following year. He will never be a contributor for the Rockets. Ba.
That's when he started playing professionally. Obviously he had seen a basketball before that time. It will likely be never, just like me.
I'll say he joins the Rox is 3 years of less. I am very confident that he will be a Rocket someday soon specially since he can be a abackup at the PF and C positions. What I do not get is the diss towards the Badman. If I recall correctly this was the same treatment Magic and Wizards fans gave Ben "no skills" Wallace. Malick, in his interviews, has stressed that he understands how the NBA works - that one does not have to be highly skilled to succeed here. So he is focused on his defense and rebounding and that my friends will be what will eventually land him here if he can stay healthy.
I'm trying to think of players the Rockets have drafted and shipped over seas that have come back and made the team. So far I'm not coming up with any names.
No, obviously he did not. He grew up in Senegal West Africa and played soccer during his adolesence just like Hakeem did. I bet you never saw Hakeem play the first year he came to UH, did you. Well, I did and he was not NBA ready then either. Malick is no Hakeem, but not only is Malick 6'11" and have good hops, but he also has a standing reach within an 1 or 2 inches of Yao's and Deke's, and that means he has extremely long arms. He is a freak of nature that is worth waiting for if he can make it. Project and potential are a good thing in this case, IMO. I think he is due to come on-line about the time Deke checks out. I think he will mostly be a back up Center because he lacks the lateral quickness to play PF. I wish he could come over next year and get a year of teaching from Deke, but our heroes in the front office probably don't think like that. He is, IMO, going to be a defensive player, rebounder and shot blocker similar to Deke. BTW: IIRC Brockstapper and GermanRoxFan live in Germany and have more opportunity to watch him than any of us do. Once is more than most of people on this thread have ever seen him.
