Not for the max. Even after renouncing the cap holds, they still don't have the space to offer CP3 and Dwight max deals... and Georgia has a state income tax on top of it.

but in my post, i assumed the renouncing of everyones cap hold, including smith and teague. and you can't renounce capholds of empty roster spots or first round picks, right? so i don't see how they'd have enough space, especially if the cap is at 58.5. it looks like they'd have more like 34-34.5m in space.

They have enough space if they renounce all their holds, decline team options, etc.. they have $18,483,800 in guaranteed salaries

I honestly think Howard doesn't want to play with Paul. He didn't like playing with Kobe and they are similar. I expect Howard and Smith to try an sign here together.

They could trade those 1st round picks for future years getting rid of the cap holds

Even in that hypothetical, they'd still have a cap hold for the roster spots, albeit slightly lower. It would be enough that they couldn't offer both max deals.

P.S. They'd have no choice but to essentially give away the picks... no one's going to trade a future 1st for a pick in the second half of a terrible draft while also clogging their cap space this summer. It would take cash and a 2nd. And that makes the "winning plan" for Atlanta even harder to sell.

In a weak draft? They'll get .50 on the dollar if lucky.

    Maybe we could oblige

Rockets losing their pick was really really lucky on the Rockets part

empty roster capholds exist. for every empty roster spot you have until 12 spots, you have a caphold of 490,180, iirc. that means it's 18,483,800 + (490,180 X 8) which is like 22,405,240 which is 36,094,760 in capspace. that's with trading their 2 first rounders as well.

If Howard leaves L.A., I believe he will go to Atlanta. The east is nice and soft like him and where he belongs...

LOL! It's impossible for Atlanta to sign 2 max FAs at once. That's because both players will want a guarantee and will say they'll only sign if the other player signs already. Players want security and don't want to be like Baron Davis who signed with the Clips only for their PF to sign with another team.

Plus, what's there to sell them to Atlanta? Atlanta isn't a glamor city, Ferry doesn't have a slick GM reputation, and their coach is a nobody. Apart from capspace is there anything that can lure FAs there? I just don't see CP3 walking away from LA just to go to Atlanta, esp. since just 2 of them won't result in a contender.
