On paper, Hack-a-strategies are very much overrated, and quite frankly not that good against top defenses. The only true purposes it can serve are to extend a game(hence higher variance in the outcome) and to screw up the opposing team's offense.

However, shooting FTs basically destroys any transitoin game. Can't get transition baskets when the defenders are already set. Points per possession goes down quite a bit in the half court game vs. overall. This is even worse when playing against a team that features the best rim protector in the game.

Overall, I doubt hacking strategy will even cost us a single game over the course of a regular season. But at most it would cost us one IMO. Keep in mind we may lose more than one game where we're ahead in the 4th pre Hack-a-Howard, but some of that can also attribute to opponents just making a comeback that would've been possible without the hacking.

In the playoffs, it's very unlikely that it cost us even one game.

Stern put the 2:00 rule in effect to protect his favorite team...The Lakers and Shaq. NBA will probably amend that rule soon knowing that Houston will be a beneficiary. Dwight needs to improve his FT shooting, at all costs.

I think we are going to see D12 return to his 60ish percent on FTs so I think hack-a-Dwight won't work. Besides, the plan is to be up 20 late in games so who cares?!

Well, if last year is any indication, Dwight will be on the bench anyways and Garcia will be playing center.

But as long as Dwight can hit 50%, it's a win.

Regardless of it's past use by many teams, it's still a desperation tactic that rarely works.

I hope he can get back to shooting around 60% this year. I think being out of the LA spotlight will take some of the pressure off of him and help him shoot better from the line.

If they start hacking, put in a lineup of Beverly/Garcia/Parsons/Asik/Howard. We don't need offense so let's just put in a lineup that won't let them score in the halfcourt.
