Is anyone else sick of the "All Williams" tennis final?

Manny -- I've seen Serena's arms. They look fantastic. Sounds to me like maybe you're just jealous of her bulging biceps.

It is entirely possible for a woman who is genetetically predisposed toward muscularity to get that big without the use of steroids. Hell, Linda Hamilton was almost that big for Terminator 2 and she only trained for 6 months. Imagine what could happen if a woman trained hours per day from the time she was young like say...oh I don't know...Serena???

We are only now just beginning to discover what female athletes are truly capable of. The first female bodybuilding champion, Lisa Lyon, was crowned in 1979. People like Arnold Schwarzenagger and Joe Weider gushed about her amazing muscularity, and about how they never thought it was possible for a woman to have well-defined arms like that. I have to laugh when I see those pictures because Lisa Lyon had fewer muscles than the average clothing model does now. We've come a very long way in the past 25 years.

I have a feeling that 25 years from now we'll look back and wonder what all the fuss was about. By then women who look like Serena won't be surprising to us. She's just on the leading edge.

Besides, women who take steroids tend to have very similar looks to their faces. Their jawline becomes much harder and elongated. I haven't seen this on either of the Williams sisters. If I was going to bet on steroid use in the WTA my money would be on Capriatti and Mauresmo.

 

Thank you Ms. JB. I think a lot of people underestimate what hard work and dedication will do for you - not to mention what low body fat does for your definition.

The other thing people aren't taking into account is that we are seeing their arms at the point of impact. I saw Serena on the Late Night show the other night and they didn't look that big relaxed. She looked damn nice, actually.

 

Just one other note on this...

There have been plenty of female Olympic athletes, who are regularly tested for steroids, who are bigger than Serena and Venus.

Athletes who take steroids don't have pudgy faces like Serena anyway, nevermind that booty.

 

I don't know if Serena is 'juiced' or not, but this morning on the Today Show, she admitted that she does not lift weights to any degree. She speculated that her arms were so muscular due to hitting tennis balls.

Lets not get carried away. Neither one of them will be ever as dominant as Graf or Navratilova. I mean those two have about 23 titles each.

I actually enjoy having dynasties in sports. I think that it is more meanful to beat the Lakers than to beat the Super Bowl champion Patriots.

However, I don't like the all Williams finals. Great finals should have great adversaries like Connors and McEnroe or Navratalova and Everett. The Williamses are sisters and will never be adversaries and when I watch their matches, I really don't care who wins.

 

For those of you that think Richard Williams is a moron, he has done a hell of a lot more to improve his condition (Compton, CA) than most in a similar position, and is the brain-child behind the driving force in women's tennis. Of course he is tactless, but don't call him stupid. If he wrote a book, would you buy it? If he did an instructional video would it sell? When he decides to publish all those pics will you be interested?

He may not have teeth, an education, or a personality but like it or not, Richard Williams hasn't missed yet.

In terms of Venus vs. Serena, don't hate the playas...

Steroids? Come on guys, you take performance enhancers when you need to enhance your performance, Serena came out of the box winning. Plus they want families, why would they risk that. I personally don't think that tennis is THAT important to them.

 

I don't think the Williams sisters are on 'roids either. Some people are just genetic freaks, and they qualify. Bo Jackson was the same way. He claimed not to have lifted weights until college and he was built like a Mack truck. Kwame Brown claims to avoid the weight room, and he's got very solid definition in his arms. Being the shallow individual that I am, I only tune in to women's tennis because of the physical attraction of the players and the skimpy outfits. I find neither of the Williams sisters attractive in the least, so to answer the original question posed by the thread, yes I am sick of watching these two in the finals of every tournament.

...and yes their father is a moron. A good tennis coach, yes, but an absolute public relations train wreck. An old signature of mine used to read "It's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of as stupid than to open it and remove all doubt." Mr. Williams, please take heed.

 

Um, River, Kournikova is overrated and it is a joke that she still gets press. She has to be the worst professional tennis player to be that famous. I mean is she ever going to win anything that is worth a damn??

So, yeah, I think I can say that I am over it.

But I am not over seeing others in the sport cheat by taking steroids, performance enhancers, or whatever. Notice that I didn't say any names here, but I sorta have to echo 03's post of "Riiiiiiiight."

Ummmmm....no...I think I will save my money and pass.

If he has no teeth, I say that he has missed....missed on seeing a dentist.

 

Sometimes I find myself watching something "grotesquely alluring" on the Discover channel, too. So I don't mind.

 

If there was a third player who could take on both sisters, the game would be more entertaining.

 

In defense of Kournikova, she did win 15 doubles titles including 2 Australian Opens.

And you have "missed " as well, the point. Just because Richard is unconventional (it's a stretch, but go with me), that doesn't mean that not smart.

How is he a GravyTrainer? He doesn't sit in the family box, he doesn't even show up to most of the matches. He boldly predicted his daughters immediate future a few years ago and he was right, so get over it.
