So let me get this straight. We've gone from Les Alexander plugging a product through massive speculative hype to a Jackie Robinson debate in the same thread?

Allow me to interrupt the tangent for a moment to address the point of the thread. Hype is what sports is all about. Last year it was all about MJ coming back. Anybody else remember "Come see the Rockets play Michael Jordan and the Washington Wizards"?

Due to the marketing nature of the NBA this shouldn't surprise anybody.

I'm finished...now continue the Yao vs. Robinson thing. I'll take Yao in 6 rounds.

Les is the one who said this was bigger than Jackie Robinson. Les is on drugs apparently.

So from this and your earlier posts in other threads...anybody you disagree with is not only a racist, but apparently an addict as well.

Just because you're ignorant of the fact that it was Les who brought up Jackie Robinson doesn't mean you have to go into your so typical "compassionate conversative" battle mode and attack me. You should keep your politicall bull in the hangout where it belongs and then maybe you should go get high with Les because you take yourself way too seriously.

I noticed you didn't even bother to address the point, as usual. Yao Ming wouldn't even be here without someone like Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier. When Yao Ming's jersey is retired by every NBA franchise and he's in the Hall of Fame then we can maybe, just maybe begin to entertain the viewpoint that his story is in the same ballpark as someone like Jackie Robinson.

Oh yeah...I forgot...anybody who disagrees with you is also ignorant. Can we just make a list of horrible things that anybody who disagrees with you is?

This view of yours explains a lot.

In this case the point was ridiculous. Yao coming over here is huge...but not as huge as the first person of his race to play the game. I thought that it was pretty clear and didn't need to be said.

Not even comparable. Tell me...who broke the color barrier in the NBA?

There are three times as many "raven" posters on this BBS as there are "yetti" posters. You will not take any of us without a fight.

Oh Christ, are you going to start crying now? Boo hoo oh mommy. You can't possibly be ignorant about anything, you're Chief Justice Refman. You're the authority on any topic that rears it's head, from tupperware to nuclear proliferation How dare anyone disagree with you. The nerve...

This view of yours explains a lot.

Your pathetic attempt to attack me instead of dealing with the topic at hand explains a lot about you and your tactics.

Yeah and this is essentially an admission that you preferred to attack me personally and pick a fight instead of agreeing with or disagreeing with the opinions here after I clarified how Jackie Robinson's name emerged.

Not even comparable. Tell me...who broke the color barrier in the NBA?

The color barrier wasn't broken in the NBA until several years after Jackie Robinson. Not even comparable... pfft.

Going back to the original thread:
Nobody is saying Yao can't cut it...
Or that Les hasn't done more than most owners to see his team win...
He just needs to keep his mouth shut and be thought a clown, instead of opening it and removing all doubt. He didn't get the nickname Elmer Fudd for nothing.
Let's get the wins then talk. I'd prefer to leave that kind of pre- crap to Shaq the Mouth Breather (and his toe).

Les is an idiot! We liked it better when the only time we got a comment out of the old carpet bagger was when he flew in town on that rare occasion. Now that he nancy have split, I guess we will be subjected to more comments from the Grand Poo-Bah.

Obviously his rockets staff isn’t doing their job by keeping him away from the media. At the very least they should be writing all his material. But on second thought… may be his stupid comments aren’t that bad. Just think if he never spoke.. We wouldn’t have much to make fun of him on morning radio anymore.

Keep the pearls coming Les! We need a good laugh from the rockets other than the score.

Les is a Gentleman, Educated and an astute business man. A man with his own mind and a wise investor. I say thank you Les for bringing us our Rockets Team and a new Stadium.

Well, for one, I do believe that the team that we have now
is the most balanced team we've ever had. Ever!

Defense is not as strong. But, so they say, they are working on it.

Nevertheless, when Les talks about this being the "greatest team ever
assembled." Well, I take that with a grain of salt (shrewd business talk).
But, he's not way off base. If things go right. We can be a dominant
team. Why? One reason. We have Yao. It's an advantage that no one
can brag about. Sure, it's early. But, he's the real deal.

For one, I don't know why anyone would dislike Les. He's the only
Houston team owner that has actually did some work in making
sure that we have a WINNING team. (Rockets: back-to-back, Comets: 4-peat)
He's trying to put the parts together.

Does anyone remember, penny pincher, BUD ADAMS?

    Enough said.

We're lucky to have Les. He's been much better than your average owner (if there is such a thing). So he went a little over the top with the hyperbole... after suffering through last year as a fan, can you imagine what it must have been like for Les?? He deserves some credit for getting us the new digs and sticking with Rudy and CD.

Like DavidS said... he's no Bud Adams.
