Coulter is just conservatives version of Michael Moore. At least we have the good sense to use a maginally attractive woman instead of the Pillsbury Dough Boy though.
StupidMoniker: Yeah, but Moore has a better sense of humor . You're just too hung up on superficial things like appearance. Typical conservative .
LEW: Ah, I knew it was you! You tried to trick Hop Sing! You are onour list; Elaine Benes! And now you are on our list; Ned Isakoff. NED: You got me blacklisted from Hop Sing's? LEW: She named name!
The problem wasn't just that innocents were wrongly found 'guilty'...nor was it that their careers were ruined/interrupted...it's that we, in a supposedly free country, saw a certain political affiliation or interest as equatable with being an enemy of the state...which itself is contrary to the basis of our system. The fact that people still see communist as an automatically negative accusation maintains that flaw in our supposed freedom. Communism is an arguable political position, at least from a moral standpoint. I personally think it is flawed, but then so is Democracy. But the standard dismissal of communism, based on the USSR, etc. is itslef faulty, as the USSR never practiced actual communism. I don't think it's possible/feasible to actually try it, given the need for those given extreme power during the Rule of the Proletariat to willingly surrender that power, and Cincinnatus and Washinton types are hardly common political animals.
Actually the blacklists are real. There are examples of it from Zero Mostel to many others. There was once a movie made by Woody Allen in which almost everyone he uses were people that were blacklisted. Yes they eventually got back into the business, but the fact is that they were blacklisted for a period of time. Secondly, you are correct that there were communists in the unions. But so what. People in the U.S. are free to join the communist party. Also if you look at the history of the communist party in America, the rise of the party stopped with exposure of STalins ideas, and practices. There were some who either didn't object to Stalinism, or didn't believe that it could be as bad as they were told. After all so many lies about the Soviet Union were going around at that time. So if there were communists in hollywood, congress, the armed services, or anywhere else it doesn't really matter, if one believes in the freedoms gauranteed by our constitution. As far Coulter, goes, she may talk about relevant topics and points, but when she lies, uses misinformation, or leaves out relevant information, then she does a disservice to those who believe in the things that she espouses.
You also have to remember what happened in the 1930's--30%+ unemployment, rise of facism in Italy and Germany, etc. Much different view of things if you look from the 30's forward instead of selectively looking back from the present.
You can't seriously think Moore is not the liberal Coulter, can you? Oh no, the Lockheed plant in Columbine is responsible for the school shootings, Heston had a big pro-gun rally right after both the school shootings, and K-Mart is a leading contributer to gun violence. Damn the military industrial complex, the NRA, and capitalism.
I've never heard Moore threaten conservatives with execution. It's unfortunate that Moore did what he did in his film, but now it seems like everytime somebody tries to bring up the question of why so many Americans are killed by guns every year, people now just say Moore lied about the location of Heston's rally.
But her spelling is quite good... and she has nice hair. bamaslammer, as for communists "infiltrating" unions, I don't know to break this to you. Organized labor is a concept, a healthy one, that is closer to socialism than pure capitalism. So, I'm saying, "duh." Pure socialism sucks, as does pure capitalism. They both have things to offer.
