    im assuming you meant 'now'.

shawn kemp for a 5-6 year period averaged 18/10. thats solid. and if you saw him play you knew he was explosive and could really dominate some games. and given the fact that he had peyton it only reinforces the comparison. and he did this with yao type of minutes. its a very favorable comparison. amare has obviously reached this level quicker and will probably put up better numbers and for a longer duration. but the game is VERY similar.

amare is the next hakeem = stackhouse being the next jordan.

    Dude, are you on crack?

Hakeem is one of the top 5 centers of ALL-TIME.

Amare won't even come close. Plus, he's a natural PF, not a center.

The 1986 Hakeem averaged 24 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals per game.

The current Amare averages 26 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 1 steal per game.

It's really not even close if you ask me. I'm sure that Amare will be a great player someday, but right now his play is more a product of Steve Nash's brilliance than his own abilities. Amare's just a good finisher around the basket with a decent jumper. His stats went down drastically all across the board during the 4 games that Nash was out with injury.

Hakeem never played with a point guard of Nash's caliber. Even back in 1986, Hakeem commanded double teams pretty frequently. I distinctly remember Hakeem having to score against both McHale and Bird on several possessions during that series.

AMARE is in between SHAWN KEMP - KENYON MARTIN.

Kemp had range that Amare doesn't.

Take out NASH and lets see AMARE take over??

I think an important question needs to be asked??

Dream had the "Dream Shake." The PATTENED Hakeem move. Does Amare have a move named after him??

I think he does. It's called the "hey-cool-Steve-Nash-Just-Passed-me-the-ball-a-foot-from-the-rim-and-now-I-will-dunk-it" move.

Has this guy EVER hit a jumpshot in his LIFE??

PLEASE DO NOT COMPARE A 2nd PLAYER WITH NO J TO THE GREATEST CENTER OF ALL TIME!

Amare has hit quite a few jumpshots this year, he definitely worked on that over the offseason...still, he's no where near Dream's level.

would you take his jumpshot over the top big men of today-- Garnett, Duncan, Brand, Odom, Dirk, Kurt Thomas,..........

I'm just saying that it still is nothing to be feared. I would leave him open ALL DAY for 15 footers.

most importantly though (like you said), he is no where on Dream's level.

We tend to distribute the word "great" too often and make it just cheap. Noway we should compare some young kids who haven't achieve anything, anything at all to those HOFs, not to mention those greatest ones among them. It's just a disrespect to the sport itself. Personally, I hate to see Yao to be compared with Dream as well. Potential doesn't automatically mean success. There are years of hard work, progress and certain amount of luck away. This thread is just silly.

Exactly, there isn't much to him yet. Wait a while...then come to conclusions.

But....there will never be anyone like the Dream. His moves, they just bamboozled the defense.

I think everyone saw what happened to Mrs. Stoudemire when her husband Steve Nash sat out with an injury a little while ago. End of Story.

He's the next Shawn Kemp, who was also kicking serious a$$ as a strong, athletic youngster. And we saw what happened to him.

Amare's game is nothing like the Dream's. Hakeem was a defensive player and rebounder 1st (and had a fantastic impact just from them) then developed his low post game.

As others have said Shawn Kemp is a much more reasonable comparison. Shawn Kemp was an awesume player at his peak and hung right with Malone or Barkley, hoping Amare becomes that good is not an insult.

Hopefully for Phx's sake Amare's motivation and discipline won't fly south as fast a Kemp's though.

Feel the hate 4 amare.. Sad.. Get a life people.
Noone will ever be like Hakeem 4 a starter.
But to yet ur hate cloud ur Judgement on a player who is so far ahead of Yao right now is sad. Yao is a role player, Amare is a top 10 player in the league. 1 day he will be a MVP. If King James ever lets anyone get one. Amare is just that good. And he will prove it all very soon to the haters.

were do you feel hate? I think almost everybody here agrees that Amare is a very good player. We just said he is not the next hakeem(like the thread starter asked). What in the world has Yao has to do with this thread???? Absolutly nothing. But stil a very good comment:p
