Man, we never change.... you can't speak your mind??... cause are you a communist??...hav'nt we learn't anything from history??...nope....same ol'....... i'm not a muslim.... to answer your question of if i'm an extremist as well... .... my thing is if AlQuaeda had so many sleeper cells in the U.S would'nt we see suicide bombers in the U.S???? i sort of agree with the article in the sense that AlQauida is not one big organization...cause its too easy to go kill people if you want.... from what i hear of things that is all they want to do...so how come its not happeneing..it must be cause alquaeida is just a small organization that was able to pull something catastrophic off...and the U.S went under damage control and had to make Alquaeda big for control purposes. though another thing i don't get is the Iraq situation and how Alqaeda has been linked to it?...i just don't think things are soo black and white as peole want things to be..that's the sad thing is people don't want to look at a situation and analyze it without putting their emotions first.... ..i would like to see the bloodshed to end....when's the last time we had peace...tooo long ago.
Benjamin Franklin had to worry about enemies lugging heavy cannons, loading muskets, and bearing swords. It is a different world, though his words are noble and inspirational. That's not lost on me. I think that we have an alert and knowledgeable citizenry thanks to round-the-clock investigative news and political diversity-- so what's the problem?
What Franklin was talking about was freedom. It doesn't matter who the enemy is, or what methods they use, when you give up your liberties. He is saying that tyranny, and totalitarianism were worse. Those things haven't changed even if the tactics the enemy uses have. Just because it is a different enemy is no reason to abandon the princibles. The way the enemy fights now is different, and so is the way the our army fights now. It is a wash. But losing liberties, or worse, giving up liberties is the same.
The numbers were supplied by the article MacBeth used. After several people didn't get it, MacBeth tried many times to explain how it worked.
That's why I live off the degrid, so the machines will not be able to find me after the neocons' nuclear war.
I don't think that giving up freedom necessary returns us to tyranny or totalitarianism. We make all kind of compromises in our society. Did you know that you can't even smoke a cigaret just anywhere you please? Idealism... meet reality.
Do you believe that we have a free an independent media!? oh, that is not the case. Have you watched fox news? not that any of the others are that much better. our media is like the a dog on a chain. Sure the dog can go where ever it wants, to a limit. You'll see the media debating semantics, details, but not larger questions of whether the government was right in doing so. (and please don't point out silly examples against this statement, I'm talking about serious questions, example: Is Bush a war criminal because he started a war of aggression?) The media will just question the hows and the whys. Why are insurgents also called terrorist.? Why arn't they freedom fighters? People who are trying to liberate their country from a foreign invasion? Our founding fathers would have been called terrorists, by the British media, in this climate. Do you realize that you are not only giving away your freedoms, buy you are also giving away your childrens and your grand-childrens. How can you be so cavalier about it? Try to think in the historical and global context.
Losing Freedoms is exactly what leads to tyranny and totalitarianism. Ben Franklin apparently saw that as well.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&e=3&u=/nm/20050120/ts_nm/security_boston_dc BOSTON (Reuters) - The FBI (news - web sites) is seeking to question four Chinese nationals amid unconfirmed reports that they are headed to Boston as part of a possible "dirty bomb" plot, authorities said on Wednesday. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. prosecutors in Boston released photographs of four Chinese nationals identified as Zengrong Lin, Wen Quin Zheng, Xiujin Chen and Guozhi Lin, and said the four individuals were being sought in connection with an unspecified, uncorroborated threat. "Information was received by federal law enforcement in Boston today originating from an unknown and uncorroborated source regarding an unspecified potential threat," federal prosecutors and the FBI said in a joint statement. "There is no further specific information regarding the City of Boston nor is there any degree of specificity on the type of potential threat," the statement said. "As is done whenever we receive this type of information, all appropriate investigative steps are taken." None of the individuals' names had previously appeared on any kind of "watch list," the statement said. Authorities first learned of the potential threat from an anonymous tip, Boston Mayor Tom Menino told reporters. Although not confirmed, the information in the tip was serious enough to prompt Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney to cut short his visit to Washington, where he had been due to attend President Bush (news - web sites)'s inauguration on Thursday. Romney told reporters in Washington he had decided to return to reassure Massachusetts residents that it was safe to be at home. He said the four individuals being sought were not thought to be in Massachusetts but may be headed there. "It (the threat) is specific in that it mentions a location where the individuals were dropped off. That location is New York. It identifies also a location where a threat might be directed and that location is Boston," Romney said. The release of the photographs came after ABC News reported on Wednesday that teams equipped with radiological sensors were patrolling Boston amid a possible "dirty bomb" threat. Boston FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkiewicz said she was not aware of such patrols, and that the information used in the report was not corroborated. She added that the FBI routinely receives such reports and investigates them. Menino reiterated that there was no evidence of a "dirty bomb" plot in Boston. Witnesses in downtown Boston reported few if any signs of heightened police presence on city streets, although one witness said a train conductor on the city's subway system urged commuters to be vigilant and report any suspicious packages.
As a member of this society, you have foregone a lot of freedoms. Do you feel under the thumb of a tyrant?
Obviously there are freedoms that are forgone. We aren't talking about supporting anarchy. I'm not talking about having given up previous freedoms, though some of those have gone too far as well. I'm talking about giving up additional freedoms specifically related to the declaration of independence, the U.S. constitution, and freedoms that comprise the core values our nation was founded on.
you could be called an enemy combatant, so could you wife or children. there are innocent americans who where arrested IN america who are being held and given no miranda rights what so ever. not charged, not allowed to see anyone (family, or lawyer no one), JUST HELD. i am an american, this is america, and THAT IS WRONG! To call someone an "Enemy Combatant" is just a way to create a loophole so they can deny americans the Bill of Rights, or the Geneva Convention to anyone else.
I almost mentioned this earlier, but why did they shut down those internment camps? I thought that once we surrendered these liberties, we were never to get them back?
IT is possible that they fought for and won back. It isn't a risk worth taking. Those liberties shouldn't have to be surrendered at all. Because we stopped the practice of internment camps isn't a good argument for allowing them again at another time.
