I have a couple of different places I get the books. One is an ebook irc chat room... another is a file sharing forum. Then there is the legit free sample books that a bunch of publishers give out... I subscribe to a blog that collects them all and posts how to find them.

Kindle rocks. I didn't think I would like it, but it's great.

Definitely worth the money. I had a Kindle 2 and it was pretty nice until I broke it :p.

Now I have a Velocity Micro Cruz Reader Tablet, that's like a hybrid of an android tablet and a regular e-reader (like the Nook or Kindle). It's got an LCD screen though and that's been so so for my eyes so far. One day, I'd like to own both since while this one has color, it still has an LCD screen and not the easier e-ink on the eyes.

    Really enjoying my Kindle.

I recommend downloading Calibre, which allows you to install ebooks on to your Kindle. The best thing it allows you to do is convert other ebooks to Amazon's proprietary format.

LOL well I feel like it doesn't make a difference if I download them for free or get them at the library... which is what I used to do most of the time (plus I still buy a book each time I go to the grocery store - it's my reward for doing the shopping)

I have a Nook and love it - got it on sale for $99 on Black Friday.

I don't know if this is standard on all Kindles, but I don't like the keyboard, that was one reason I steered towards the Nook.

For those with a Nook (not Nook Color), they have extra battery for sale for $9.95 in store pickup at Best Buy:

I got a Kindle for my birthday. I love it so far!!

HayesFan, please let me know how I can get free ebooks! I was thinking that reading books would be an expensive habit. I am already on my 3rd book for this month.

I had no idea I could check emails on Kindle...is that right?

That's like saying it is O.K. to illegally download music because you can record it off the radio. Or it's O.K. to illegally download a movie because you can see it on cable.

I've been researching this a bit and I've come to the conclusion that it's not really worth it to buy any of these right now - leaps have been made in short periods of time with each major ereader, and I think that delaying purchase of one will increase the chances that I can get one with ALL the features I want, and at a more reasonable price.

With Calibre will that work for the epub books from the library? Will it get rid of the drm as well? The libraries here have a different format than Kindle. I would love to check out ebooks. It would be great if Calibre let me do that.

Do you download Calibre to your Kindle itself or to your computer?

Probably a stupid question but I don't have a Kindle yet, or Calibre, so I'm not sure about this stuff.

I got my wife a Kindle for Xmas and she absolutely loves it! She is a huge reader. The E-ink is AMAZING!

Uprising, like you, when we got it, I tried to take the picture off the Kindle, only to soon realize it was the painting on the background. Couldn't believe it.

I think the current WIFI Kindle is really priced competitively. I think they have a winner.
