Is a high non-#1 lottery pick really so bad?

Minny should be deprived of any 1st round picks within a decade for deliberately tanking for lottery by ever putting Madsen at the starting C position. :D

I wouldn't tank, but I don't see what shane brings to a 30 win team this year. I can see scola because he's a good player and have a expiring contract. Shane is going downhill and his salary doesn't fit what he does on the court. Trade him for younger talent or just pawn him off for capspacee. I mentioned deandre jordan from the clipps would be good to get. He's young and athletgic and cheap. The rox would get a 7m te for later to use and get way under the lt. He fits a need and want in the age group. If he progresses and yao has trouble coming back, you already have Yao's replacement. If yao comes back, you have his backup.

it really depends on the type of draft. if we're in the lottery in a deep draft like with the lebron/wade/melo/bosh, then getting a top 5 pick is GREAT.

if it was a draft like this past year where only the #1 pick would generate a franchise player, there's really no point. that's why there are teams that are always in the lottery and never become good again.

rebuilding is not just through the draft, but rather trades and good management

You know, people continue to bring up this example as some sort of justification for tanking. Here's the reality, the Spurs, next to the New England Patriots, have been one of the best organizations in all of sports since the late 90s.

You really think getting lucky with Duncan is the only reason they've won their rings? Nothing on being the early pioneers in international drafting (Manu, Parker), along with the other smart basketball decisions they've made, along with have a future HOF head coach?

Yes, Duncan is the main piece of their championship years, but in the end, it's a culmination of events and good decision making that led to their rings. On the flip side, how did tanking work for other teams, like the Clippers?
