    Yaos big
    Yao has good footwork

    Shaq is big
    Shaq has good footwork

    They weigh about the same
They have arguably similary ballhandling ability
    They both can pass.

So why cant Yao just frikin back the shizznit outta his defender, especially one like Okur who isn't known for D, and either jump hook or Dunk the ball?

Goal for Yao next season: Become black and start dunking more

Yao is slow. He is a little too slow.

Shaq was lighting quick in his prime. He was soo explosive back then.

Yao has the footwork equaled to a 3-legged merry-go-round???

How many times did his ass hit the deck this series??

Yao should be able to compensate with freethrow ability and spectacular mid range game

BUT HE HAS TO TAKE IT TO THE BASKET IF ANY OF THAT IS TO MATTER

im pretty sure the Yao, at 300+ pounds
is stronger than Okur at like 250 pounds

This is one of the dumbest threads ever. They are two completely different players. That is why Yao cannot be like Shaq. Shaq is farrrr quicker and farr more powerful with a lower center of gravity than Yao.

Shaq is not even Shaq right now.

People need to wake up and realize the league is not tailored for guys like Yao and Shaq anymore. The league does not want slow, plotting, post big men to do well.

With all the new defensive rules implemented and the clear league instructing officials to not call the game fairly in the paint, guys like Yao & Shaq are not going to be truely dominant.

Yao in the late 90's would be SCARY!!!

I still love Yao, he is my favorite player and he is going still be a great player throughout his career but the league is what it is now.

I never post in threads for the sole purpose of criticizing the topic, but I"ll make an exception this time around. This thread is idiotic.

Shaq is a literal freak of nature. Men who are 340 pounds should generally not be capable of leaping 36-40 inches into the air. He was. Couple that leaping ability with his brute strength, and you have your answer.

I guess Yao will never be like Shaq
but i believe that if he is to achieve his potential
he has to become much more physical and bruising in the paint

Maybe gain another 10 pounds in muscle?

yeah, shaq was quite agile. yao looks awkward when his body is in motion. though yao did pull off some nice no look passes when steve was on the team. rockets need more active guys around yao instead of players parking behind the 3pt line.

shaq is a lot stronger than Yao, Yao gets bullied in the paint, Shaq gets to the spots he wants basically anytime he wants because he can just push the other guy. He is in a position to score

As Jake the Mus says "Too much weights, not enough speedwork." Yao needs to work on speed and explosivess, not more weights and running laps like what he's been doing.
