We destroy their country and kill tens of thousands of their civilians and you want to charge them for it? Damn son, that's some nerve.
But he's letting them pay over time. It's like if a waiter spilled hot soup you didn't order on your lap. He couldn't rightly just add it to your bill. But maybe if he let you pay in instalments it would be more fair. And don't be cheaping out on the tip, now.
I'd love to see Iraq become a peaceful democracy. Even if that happens, two, five, ten or twenty years from now, it wasn't worth what we've paid in blood and treasure. It will go down in history as a failure in leadership from the worst President in my lifetime.
Well, I think one can hate W and still maintain humanity, but I don't think it's possible to love W and maintain your humanity, as your stance on torture shows. And here's another thing... only in your world would it be "an incredible thing" for muslims to help rebuild a church. People of different faiths get together all the time. It doesn't show that Iraq has turned a corner or that anything about this war was justified... it just shows that even under horrible circumstances, people still try to live their lives. Finally, it's not just a few of us here on this board... half the country hates W. Not for W, but for what W has done to the country... (Geez... after reading that I don't blame Gore for not running.)
Two sentences? Wow, that's a long post for you basso. I'm not denigrating the story... it's a good story. I'm questioning your motives and your interpretation of the story. Even though you try to write cryptically and never expand on your thoughts, it's clear what this story represents to you. And it's clear that you desperately want this story to mean so much more than it does in the real world. The "incredible" thing that happened in this story does not do anything to make the Administration's position more tenable. According to your logic, the only people that helped Jews escape Nazi persecution would be Jews, but we know that the "incredible" happened a bunch and it happened under worse conditions. And by the way, nice job of ignoring my humanity comment. I like how you can cavalierly accuse others of losing their humanity because they don't agree with you on a war, but when it's pointed out that you have truly lost a part of your humanity... and for the utterly stupid reason of supporting a rogue administration over the history, beliefs, and wishes of the country... you refuse to even address it. Have a nice day.
no, you've projected your own prejudices onto what i posted. what i intended by this post is pretty succinctly captured in the part i bolded in the original post. before you tell me what i meant, perhaps you should go back and re-read. and you have no idea what i think about torture.
It depends. If Rimbaud is posting here, I defer to him. In this case, basso is using it as a diminutive directed at me rather than the endearing nickname usually reserved for Rimbaud.
You have a posting history that does not argue in your favor and has been pointed out... and in subsequent posts in this very thread, you have made it clear what you intended. If I have no idea what you think about torture, that's your fault, not mine. I'm going on what you've posted in the past and the fact that you don't think all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights... I do hope you will correct my impressions by telling us in some detail what you think about torture.
I would expect a supporter of W to focus on the term "royal." Oh, I read your post, thank you. And I thought you could have used any number of words... Dems, Libs, libpigs, etc. ... but you chose "Rimmy" for a reason. At least I should thank you for capitalizing it... I know how tough it is for you to hit the shift key on most of your posts. Awaiting your treatise on torture. Please do enlighten us.
