Mousavi is a piece of crap, I remember him being prime minister during the war. what a hypocrite, they were sending kids to die during the latter parts of that war, and he states that we should continue fighting on, Iraq had withdrawn, we could have kept the gained territory during that time but he insisted on more deaths.

a hypocrite nonetheless, how can someone like him change all of a sudden, but I should talk, people do change right?

Baleh, doostam. This is nothing like when the Shah fell. And if Khamenei is ousted from this, it will be bloodless (unless the IRG and Ahmadinejad want it to get bloody)

because W won with the smallest of margins, good cheating there, not that obvious, Mahmoud won because he was stupid and overstaffed the ballots with votes, bad cheating, too much obvious.

please tell me how you get from 38% to "a majority" - "some" overlap? You're basically just adding the rural and the poor up as if there is no overlap to get to the "vast majority" you claimed earlier - this assumption is incredibly improbable

This data makes it very hard to stomach your claim that 66% for Ahmadinijad was simply due to his dominance among a mere 38% of the voters.

I don't doubt the fact that Ahmedinijad won the election, but I too have doubts about the margins. Still, the end result would have been the same.

I do however find it kind of funny that while the U.S. government is questioning the fairness of these particular elections, they are no longer questioning the legitimacy of the Iranian electoral system. Do we now accept that Iran is, in fact, a legitimate democracy or at least a quasi-democracy? It sure seems so based on statements coming out from D.C.

In summary, I have little doubt that Ahmadinejad was the actual winner of these elections, although unlikely by such a wide margin. He is a very popular figure among many Iranians who admire his humble roots and his aggressiveness in asserting Iranian power in the region and beyond. People always underestimate the importance of nationalistic sentiments, especially in times of heightened threats to the homeland, in the case of Iran that threat is both from without and within.

I forgot to add that the sentiment here of another glorious revolution is ridiculous. There are no more than a few hundred protesters gathering in some spots in Tehran and other reformist strongholds, not millions of people marching on the capital. I am sure CNN cameras make it look a bit more sensational than it really is, but that sentiment is seemingly only held by people who are not familiar with the internal dynamics in Iran or those who are just getting their hopes up with some wishful thinking.

The Iranian regime is as secure as they come, this is not some backbone-less Shah in charge. This regime will likely outlast all of us. I see some possible political openings in other countries in the region, I assure you Iran is not one of them.

Isn't their economy in ruins already with 25% unemployment?

I don't want their people to suffer, but their government is absolute trash.

This is a great idea Chris !!!

backbone less shah? quite, seems you didn't live in Iran during his time, the economy was ten times better, women were better treated than they are now, heck I could watch the sunset by the beach but it seems you are quite young and naive to say that the Shah was backbone less, he did what he had to do because he didnt want blood shed, at that time, with one order, the streets would have been filled with blood, death and demise given as if by a flicker of his wrist.

the military was ordered to stand down, the backbone less shah as you dubbed him was tricked by that hypocrite Jimmy Carter, a man that I am assured of will out live me because hell wont accept someone as vile as he is.

Is this a prevailing opinion of Carter in Iran? Can you elaborate?

It is a prevailing opinion in countries from Taiwan to El Salvador, the man is vile, he states that he builds houses for the poor yet his actions say otherwise, Carter once said that Khomeini is a Gandhi figure, he implemented the operation in which advises towards the shah were given so that he could place a Gandhi like figure as he has stated into power. the ripple effect followed.
