Yeah, they should have like ABC Iran calling it for the Reform Party with like 0.05% of the vote in, and then Fox Iran could wait one hour and then call an obscure province for the Mullahs!

mayzar, hang in there. prayers for your peeps.

I guess that ends the debate for some people since there is "no evidence" to the contrary. We should just believe whatever the Guardian Council says even though NONE of what they say can be verified. Don't forget: According to the rules (some use in this debate), verification is only required of the opposition, not the government.

On another note, the blogs mention strikes might be upcoming and to keep an eye on the oil-workers. Supposedly if they go on strike, the government will crumble.

Azadre, I really feel for you and others worried about relatives and friends in Iran. The information/communication crackdown by the government is despicable.

Just wondering what made you think Press TV is an official Iranian Government mouthpiece?

Iranian opposition launches organized cyber attack against pro-Ahmadinejad sites

Approximately 24 hours ago, the Iranian opposition coordinated an ongoing cyber attack that has successfully managed to disrupt access to major pro-Ahmadinejad Iranian web sites, including the President’s homepage which continues returning a “The maximum number of user reached, Server is too busy, please try again later…” message.

Through a combination of DIY (do it yourself) denial of service attack tools (DDoS), multiple iFrame loading scripts, public web page “refresher” tool, and a much more effective PHP script, the participants have already prompted some of the major Iranian outlets to switch to “lite” versions of their sites in an attempt to mitigate the attack.

Let’s assess this very latest example of people’s information warfare concept, find out which sites remain affected, and discuss the attack tools used:
The campaign appears to have been organized through Twitter, which despite public reports that the site has been banned in Iran, appears to be still accessible through a a persistent supply of proxy servers on behalf of the opposition.

Moreover, the ongoing distributed denial of service attacks, are using techniques which greatly resemble those used in last year’s Russia vs Georgia cyber attack, and the ones Chinese hacktivists used back in 2008 in order to temporarily shut down CNN, with a single exception - there’s no indication of a botnet involvement in the present attack.

Instead, the attack relies on the so called people’s information warfare concept, which is the self-mobilization of individuals, or their recruitment based on political/nationalistic sentiments by a third-party, for conducting various hacktivism activities such as web site defacements, or launching distributed denial of service attacks.

The following are some of the sites that are currently under attack, remain totally unresponsive, or return “server is too busy” error messages:

    Ahmadinejad.ir - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s Official Blog - under attack
Leader.ir - Office of the Supreme Leader, Sayyid Ali Khamenei - under attack
President.ir - Presidency of The Islamic Republic - under attack
Farsnnews.com - Fars News Agency - under attack
Irib.ir - Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting - under attack
    Kayhannews.ir - News Portal - “Service Unavailable”
Irna.ir - Islamic Republic News Agency - “service unavailable”
Mfa.gov.ir - Ministry of foreign affairs , Islamic Republic of Iran - under attack
Moi.ir - Ministry of Interior - under attack
    Police.ir - National Police - under attack
Justice.ir - Ministry of Justice - under attack
Presstv.ir - Iranian Press TV - “server is too busy”

So I assume this means you no longer need the evidence? If not, let me know and I'll bring it.

Just got back from the Candle Light Vigil by the Galleria honoring those who died in the protest. There were about 600 people there.

At the end, the man standing near me starting rallying people to chant "death to the dictator".

LOL, lets just pretend this never happened. I've posted enough evidence to prove myself wrong.

Like it or not, it just was not enough to tip the scales. Not nearly enough Iranians took to the street, as impressive as the masses have been. My conclusion is its unlikely that the protests reflected the genuine sentiments of the majority of Iranians, and therefore it likely won't have succeeded, in fact it may well force the government to have a much heavier hand and force it to take more precautionary or preventive "housecleaning" measures to make sure such mass protests no longer take place, and government may well have the support of a good chunk of the electorate for harsher more punitive measures against reformist supporters.

Anyone has an educated guess as to what might the reformists be calling for next? Will it be labor strikes? If so, that may actually have a lot more impact than street protests.

LOL! You mean a U.S. funded propaganda arm like the one we have set up in Iraq?

There is no such thing as government funded media without an agenda. And we DO have such stations beaming from the U.S. and elsewhere specifically targeted at Iranians. I do not know if you were aware of that or not. The Defense and State Departments allocates millions of dollars each year to fund media related operations that target certain demographics around the world.

Azadre, I am tempted to ask more info (e.g. did you hear this from a close friend there?)... But please let us know when you know for sure. Hope it's not true.

Sounds like the 17 number is way too low for what's actually happening. :(

My girlfriend's aunt is a nurse in Tehran...I would venture to say that 17 is underestimating it. Apparently a little boy was admitted to the hospital a couple days ago after being beaten severely by police. And by little boy, Im talking about under the age of 10. Very sad.

My girlfriends family tried to get in touch with her on Sunday, but the phones werent working. If I hear anything from that end, I will try to relay the information.
