No, I don't. If you'll actually read my posts, far from dismissing him out of hand, as you do with Rubin et al, I said:

As Iran has had a secret program for almost two decades, I think the proclamations of an open and civilian nuclear program are in serious doubt. That the EU - certainly not in Bush's pocket (as Iraq attests) - felt compelled to refer the matter to the UNSC, as does the US, also provides a different picture than the Iranian ambassador portrays.

Clearly there is a comparative evaluation on my part, unlike your out of hand dismissal.

No. First a lot of it is just a reprint of the nyt op-ed piece. Second, the Iranians are denying there is even such a mission at all, lol. Third, the EU - which most see as far less 'warlike' than the administration, not only cannot get Iran to stop their weapons development - but has referred the issue to the UN. The UN has given them 30 days to stop said development and Iran has refused. This is just a PR campaign. Fourth, you make a fallacious leap when you go from the alleged resistance to 'who's really interested in peace.' There are plenty of alternate explanations (for example the US refused to have bilateral talks with North Korea - instead preferring to have China, Japan, and South Korea involved). There have been several statements that other Arab countries did not want these talks to be bilateral. Also there is the point that the timing of these Iranian overtures is pretty suspect considering there was no willingness to negotiate with the US BEFORE the matter got referred to the Security Council.

Iran Refuses To Negotiate On Nuclear Issue

Tehran - A leading Iranian ayatollah Friday blamed international organizations, particularly the UN Security Council, for problems involving the Islamic country's nuclear dossier.

'The Security Council creates insecurity instead of keeping the security in the world,' Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami told the Friday prayer ceremony in Tehran, adding that these international bodies have turned to a tool in the hands of some powers.

Referring to the council's statement calling on Tehran to suspend uranium enrichment activities, the ayatollah said: 'One month or one year, no difference. Give us whatever deadline you wish. Our nation will stand firm to gain its rights.'

The UN Security Council late last month demanded that Iran suspend its uranium enrichment efforts within 30 days to ease international concerns that it is trying to build nuclear weapons. It also called on the IAEA to report on Iran's compliance.

Iran has refused to comply with the Security Council's demand, defying a warning from major world powers, particularly the United States, which fear Iran secretly wants an atomic bomb.

hayes thanks for attempting to respond to my articles, but i disagree with what you said and i think your bias against iran and blind support for the us govt doesnt allow you to analyze the situation objectively

now to the article you presented...Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami is not a member of the iranian government and no where in that article does it say that iran is refusing to negotiate...its just one man saying that the unsc is inefficient

i dont know how you take this article and say that the entire nation and government is refusing to negotiate, that's just ridiculous....the article written by the iraniana ambassador is obviously the position of the state, but you've already dismissed that because it doesnt sit well with your preconceived notions

iran has shown the willingness to compromise and negotiate issues with the iaea, europe, and even the us directly if these entities deal with issues based on merit and not some twisted definition that the us might want to employ.

Actually, there is no attempt about it -I did respond to your articles. Whether you agree with me or not doesn't change that.

Blind support? As I have been critical of the US government on MANY occasions, I'm afraid your accusation has NO basis in fact. But you haven't been around very long, so I'll forgive your hasty generalization. If anyone is an ideologue, mr people of the world unite against the west, lol, it would appear to be you.

Well, as the last sentence points out, Iran is refusing to comply with the UNSC. Khatami sums up the Iranian position nicely.

Such tired rhetoric. You not so subtly try and mix and match the US and the EU. As Iraq has shown, those two entities hardly are each others back pockets. US attempts to get Iran to halt their military nuclear aspirations had failed. The EU stepped in and Iran also rebuffed their attempts to negotiate a resolution. The IAEA is who originally discovered the SECRET Iranian program, lol. As of now the UNSC has ordered Iran to stop and Iran has refused. So your fallback position of 'the US has no merit in its claims' simply holds no water.

yeah their "secret" program which is under international inspection while the rest of the world proliferates

unsc passed a non-binding recommendation, which means exactly that...btw, us and eu positions have converged on iran for the most part

npt treats says all nations have a right to nuclear energy and complete mastery of the process, thus iran is well within its rights as a sovereign nation

its funny how the west pokes fun at developing nations and calls them backwards and so on, but when they make technological and scientific advancements, the west unites against them....what a bunch of hypocrites

you still fail to discuss iran's willingness to make compromises like they did with a voluntary suspension of enrichment activites for a couple of years and willingness to negotiate

And? The UNSC position is pretty clear that Iran has an active military program.

Uh, yes - lol. They've converged because they agree Iran has an active military program.

Not to have an active military program. That's what they give up to get the civilian program in the NPT.

Sigh. No they unite against Iran's military program, which they aren't supposed to have - no hypocrisy there.

No, I already answered this. I'll reprint it for the third time since you just seem to be missing it:

As Iran has had a secret program for almost two decades, I think the proclamations of an open and civilian nuclear program are in serious doubt. That the EU - certainly not in Bush's pocket (as Iraq attests) - felt compelled to refer the matter to the UNSC, as does the US, also provides a different picture than the Iranian ambassador portrays.

please hayes can you backup your assertion that iran has a secret military program?

the burden of proof is on the one who's making the accussation, if you cant back up what u say, then your accussations are baseless

The supsicion of a secret nuclear program comes from Iran violating IAEA inspections and Iran's growing resistence for transparency.

The Oxford Research Group compiled a list of suspicious activities...

"Apart from the heavy water and uranium enrichment plants and plans to build a heavy-water reactor, there are other Iranian nuclear activities that raise suspicions. These include:
    • the development of uranium mines;
    • the construction of a uranium conversion facility at the Esfahan Nuclear Technology Centrem (ENTC) to convert uranium ore (yellow cake) into uranium hexafluoride gas, suitable for use in gas centrifuges for the enrichment of uranium; and
    • the operation of a pilot laser enrichment facility at Lashkar Ab’ad, now shut down.

The IAEA has also discovered that Iran has in the past:

    • imported uranium hexafluoride gas to test gas centrifuges at the Kalaye Electric Company, thereby producing some enriched uranium;
    • imported uranium metal for use in laser enrichment;
    • produced uranium dioxide, uranium hexafluoride, and a number of other uranium compounds using imported uranium dioxide; and
    • produced uranium dioxide targets at ENTC and irradiated them in the Tehran Research Reactor (TRR). The targets were then processed in hot cells to separate the plutonium."

The same article explains why these actions are important in a proliferation context.

    Invisible Fan,

thank you for your response and posting the article by the oxford research group, something hayes would've never done...i examined it, but there's nothing in that document that proves there's a "secret military" program...iran has admitted that they made some mistakes and so on in the past, but their program is under international inspection, which is more than i can say for many other signatories of the npt

Additional Protocol to its Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA is a voluntary measure, which iran was in the process of ratifying until it was referred to the unsc

i just wish international organizations like the iaea would hold all nations to the same standard instead of applying different standards to different nations

it's sad and unfortunate that stronger nations manipulate these organizations and their members to further their own political ends

iran has shown a willingness to make compromises like they did with a voluntary suspension of enrichment activites for a couple of years and willingness to negotiate with europe, the iaea, and even with america directly, but the us is being stubborn and recalcitrant

i just wish the same pressure was applied to israel and other that have threatened to use nukes in the past and are a real danger to stability

From the bastion of pro-American bias, France:

France: Iran has secret military nuke program
French foreign minister urges Tehran to ‘come back to reason’

    Updated: 4:04 a.m. ET Feb. 16, 2006
PARIS - French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said on Thursday Iran was pursuing a clandestine military nuclear program.

“No civilian nuclear program can explain the Iranian nuclear program. So it is a clandestine Iranian military nuclear program,” Douste-Blazy told France 2 television.

“The international community has sent a very firm message by saying to the Iranians: ‘Come back to reason. Suspend all nuclear activity and the enrichment of uranium and the conversion of uranium,”’ he added.

Douste-Blazy said the international community was united on the nuclear issue and that the Security Council would decide how to act after the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog submits a report on the situation in March.

lol, strange that i was posting an article just as you wrote this. Or alternately that I've posted multiple articles before. Of course, it probably won't make a difference because each time someone posts anything you don't agree with you just brush it off as being biased or coerced by the US, whether it be an international organization (IAEA, UNSC) or another country (France, Britain or even the unified EU). Keep the blinders on, buddy. You'll hit a wall soon enough.

    again, where is the proof?

all you gave me was more accussations, this time by the french minister of foreign affairs.

i'll repeat myself since you're obviously very thick-headed, the burden of proof is on the one who's making the accussation, if you cant back up what u say with evidence, then your accussations are baseless

so please hayes can you backup your assertion that iran has a secret military program with evidence?

Lol, sorry charlie. Not having an Iranian nuclear device in my possession doesn't make the the charges baseless. We're not in the CreepyBoyFloyd Bizarro World Court. At this point it is enough at this point to say the Iranians were hiding parts of their program. Further, you continue to darw false distinctions about the failure of the Iranians to report these parts of their program. Iran clearly agreed to inform the IAEA of any such development and then did not do so.

i applaud and thank you for admitting that you have no proof, facts, or evidence to back up your claims, which of course makes your claims baseless and further discredits and delegitimizes you

this is the same bs argument used to illegaly invade iraq....now the word iran has been subsituted in the place of iraq, while the same old tired rhetoric, demonization, and bogus claims are made over and over again

using your logic, anything can be justified

hypothetically anything is possible, but nothing is inevitable...new orleans/oklahoma city can win the nba championship...if you werent born, we wouldnt be having this conversation....if you leave your house, you could be killed

again, i ask that you stick to the facts and reality

you're repeating your same old tired rhetoric, you sound like a broken record...the reason you cant present any facts and evidence to back-up your position and your claims is because they dont exist

Guess what Bushies. You aren't getting a war with Iran to mask the fact the GOP is a big, rotten corpse.

And how do you know they don't exist, lol? Are you part of the mullahcracy in Iran? Have you done an in person review of their facilities? Please give us insight into how you can make such a statement. It is a far different thing to go from asking for evidence to declaring Iran absolved. Good luck, my friend.
