Well , that Iranian diplomat was released...so they might have gotten at least one thing in return. It's anyone's guess what they expected to get our of this, but as I expected all along the sailors were eventually going to be released, unharmed.
Do you have any proof that Iran is detaining the French citizen in regard to the situation with the British sailors? Do you have proof it is a policy of Iran to detain foreigners? For that matter do you know that he is being detained because Iran doesn't like France or that he isn't being detained because the government didn't want him photographing the religious procession? You're making a huge assumption here.
the words "hostage" and "Iran" almost rhyme. they go together like the birds and the bees..the flowers and the trees.
To be fair to Iran, he's not really being held hostage in the same way as the British soldiers. He's married to an Iranian and is living in Tehran. He's being detained in the sense that his passport has been confiscated and he can't leave the country (or city?), but he's not being held in prison or anything like that. Weird story - also has been going on for 2 months and we just heard about it.
pretty much, yeah. governments earn reputations. p.s. -- please, no one come back with some attack on the US as if I think our crap doesn't stink. btw -- proof?? man, i'm not in Iran. I didn't know you wanted a show of evidence.
But I would like to see some evidence before jumping to the conclusion that one situation is related to the other or even that this man is being held as a hostage.
I guess what I don't understand is why those British marines and sailors had to kiss so much Iranian ass? Why couldn't they just be quiet? I'm glad their released and all but is the way they behaved in that situation to be commended?
yeah, it did kind of suck to hear so much puckering but thats what they are suppose to do. You definitely dont want to give them a reason to do anything series to you. Did you see the video of them talking to Ahmadinejad before they left? I just had this thought of how hilarious it would have been if one of the sailers just started beating him down. I wonder what they got in those gifts
American soldiers are trained to only give identification and rank. If Americans would have done all that, then you can be sure it would have been controversial...especially if their departing with gift bags compliments of the anti-West Iranian president.
^ I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread but I heard an interview with one of the Royal Marines who had been captured in 2004 and he said they had been trained to cooperate with the Iranians short of giving away military secrets to avoid escalating the situation.
I'm guessing some hommos mix, Persian tea, baklava, dates and coupons for two for one entrees and free appetizers at the Tehran Black Angus.
I don't think they allow homosexuals in Iran, much less allow them to get together for a mixer. (It's more often spelled hummus.)
Or as billy packer would say, theres no "***-outs" in iran, referencing of course a colloquism used in 1234 bc in houston to mean, spicy hummus!
im surprised not many are making comments about the brits and how they said they were put under great emotional stress... hhmm, i guess its just america that deserves a good ribbing for that.
