Iraqi sources now telling CNN there were no casualties.

US sources saying we had enough of a warning to get everyone into bunkers.

After taking a step back and letting the results come out, they actually did chest beat a lot for propaganda purposes domestically, but when you look at what they actually did, it is absolutely a carefully executed “attack” that is designed to give an off ramp for this nonsense.

Of course they could be lying in their press releases and they might have just really bad aim with their ballistic missiles, but logic says they strategically wanted a show of force to save face domestically but actually want an off ramp to de-escalate.

Call that what you want, but I think most of what is coming from MSNBC and CNN is pretty fair in its assessment of the situation and thank God we do not have the media doing what it was doing in 2003 in pumping up the war drums because of 9/11...9/11...9/11... which had nothing to do with Iraq.

I don’t see it that way at all. These are ballistic missiles. They are very accurate usually. If there was no major damage, it was likely on purpose. Remember when Trump “bombed” the Syrian airfield, but then we find out that it was basically for show the next day?

I read Iran’s statement released earlier as an offer to jump on an off ramp. If they don’t actually kill anyone in response to an assassination of their #2 state official, I would say in war terms that’s a pretty measured response.

People forget that Iran is a very divided country politically. Chest beating and propaganda to appease their hard liners is also part of their political culture. Like Trump, they are mostly full of crap. They are much more violent that most countries due to centuries of war, but this isn’t ISIS cutting off heads and such.

They don’t a full blown war. Trump doesn’t either, he’s just an idiot who is surrounded by neo cons like Pompeo or Bolton who do want war and sometimes trick him by putting insane options on the table and manipulating him into doing it. I think even Trump will see this as a way to spin this as a political win. He had to know he screwed up with the assassination and would be in a much worse situation politically had Americans died in response to his idiocy in the decision to kill a general.

If MSNBC which is usually pretty pro-war is not up for this war yet then switch to Fox News.

I doubt it, but is it possible that enough Americans will not be fooled into another senseless expensive war that just makes us less safe?

If this is all Iran does, then a crisis may be diverted for now unless Trump is stupid enough to retaliate in kind. I think he backs off. The real damage will be that Iran has restarted its nuclear program, but Trump doesn't care so long as he gets a few political points.

Did you hear this is a movie? Just repeating crap from Fox? Do you ever actually engage in thought?

If you want war, volunteer. Too young do it in a few years the Iran Forever War will be around then. Too old, try to get your kids or nephews to go and sacrifice to protect your idea of America.

Yeah, I would say if they wanted to kill and maim people, the have the capabilities, and would have easily done so. This was like shooting your gun straight up to scare someone off.

Fox News has many talking heads not advocating for war. Tucker Carlson is one of them. I switch back and forth between MSNBC and Fox News to see both perspectives

You guys are biting, hook, line and sinker. Putin is laughing and doing that Mr. Burns finger thing.

If you pull back to a 40k foot view, you can see that:

    1. Trump’s weakness on the world stage is again exposed
    2. Iran is acting from what it perceives as a position of power. It’s obvious that they are being backed/goaded by Russia and possibly China.
    3. The Hawks, even if they hate Trump, are eating this up. Stage x in the takeover of the Middle Eastern oil conquest.
    4. The Soleiamani assassination was a calculated move to stoke middle eastern tensions to take public focus off of the impeachment. Presidents during wartime are ALWAYS re-elected.

    2019: Iranian aggression goes unchecked
In April, the US designates the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a "terrorist organization."

Related: Calling the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a 'terrorist organization' is risky, but nothing new

In May, exactly one year after Trump pulls the US out of the Iran nuclear deal, Iran announces Wednesday that it will relax some of the curbs the deal imposed on its nuclear program.

Related: Nuclear deal rollback won’t get Iran a weapon, but it’s not an empty threat

Throughout the spring and summer, Iran carries out a series of attacks on oil tankers in the Persian Gulf region. It is also believed to be behind the September attacks on oil installations in Saudi Arabia.

In December, attacks on US military bases in Iraq kill a US citizen. The US blames an Iranian-backed militia inside Iraq, and fires on its bases in retaliation.

Iranian backed militias protest outside the US Embassy in Baghdad, storming the security post.

Watching you Trump haters and the DNC defending Iran is just amusing and delicious at the same time. Mr Trump is playing chess and always a couple of moves ahead of you r****ds. As a former soldier, I’m so glad we have a commander-in chief that will protect our blood and treasures as well as putting America first.

This strike is looking more like a shot across the bow rather than an actual strike. I think this was more for domestic consumption of the regime showing to its people it's doing something without actually really doing something.

My own speculation is that Iran is likely working on something more subtle involving it's proxies, cyber and other non-conventional responses. That has been Iran's MO. Not direct attacks.
