Their best ships are frigates and destroyers from the US that were built in the 40's -decommissioned- and sold to Iran in the 70s.
I don't see how parading around in warships armed to the teeth is helping to "defend its maritime borders and maintain lasting peace in the region." I suppose I'm just not a big fan of governments acting like they're the solution.
yeah, those old ships wont be able to defend their country. The enemy is just too powerful. I guess nuke is their only direction to go.
Not really. Neither Israel, the US or the Saudis are going to let Iran just sneak up on Israel. The Saudis won't do it for Israel but they are very suspicious of Iran's support for Shiite movements in the rest of the Middle East. The Iranian fleet is going to be very heavily shadowed where ever it goes. As I said at the beginning of the thread it might make a very tempting target for the Israelis. I doubt the Israelis will intentionally strike it but provocative moves like low flying sweeps over the fleet might happen.
The Iranian Navy... Pause here for rueful bemused head- shaking. Translated from the Farsi: "Captain, er, starboard...is that the left side or the right side?" "Man, I hope we don't sink. I can't swim and you just know the Captain's gonna bogart the life preserver. Yes, preserver, singular, as in, one, as in, we're gonna be crab turds."
