That's awesome. I've been planning to get an Ipod for some time...this version (the nano, not the flea )might be the one that finally gets me to do it.
No. Battery-life depends upon the number of "charge cycles." By exchanging the hard drive for flash, the battery will last longer in the nano (more play hours) on a per-charge basis. Battery problems should not become endemic for at least 5-6 years. If you are still using the 2005-model nano at that point, you will be looking to replace it...
I hate the Internet! Actually, I love it. But I hate that it's hard to judge when someone is joking at times.
I just ordered mine this morning. I've been a little hesitant to enter into the iPod market, but with the feedback I've gotten on this board and of some other friends (wow, friends outside the BBS, lol) I think it'll be fairly easy to use. Now that I'm back to being a student to go along with work, I think I'll need the relaxation that listening to my own jams whenever/wherever provides. So ripping CD tracks onto the iPod is pretty simple, huh? That's the most attractive aspect of this. I don't want to load down my machines with music downloading services that can bog things down. Thanks for the great find and endorsements on the product line.
If you are using iTunes, it is a trivial operation. Put the CD in the drive, his the Import button and wait a bit (more or less, depending upon the speed of your drive and CPU) Incidentally, if you are in Houston, the Apple Store in the Galleria has some in stock...
Thanks edc; I'm actually in the Dallas-area now, but with the EMBA program kicking into high gear, I barely have time to watch the stros play much less head over to Uptown and pick one up at the Apple store over there. I'll let y'all know how it turns out. Any suggestions on what to purchase to make it play through your car's audio system?
I have a question, and thought this would be the appropriate thread to ask it... I have an MP3 player (a SanDisk) and would like to be able to easily play it on my car's stereo system. I have seen different ways of doing it, but wanted to get advice from you guys as to which method you recommend? Thanks in advance
I'm still amazed at how people flock to buy small things (electronics) because they are "small"...cell phones, cameras, and now hard-drive MP3 players. I'm not saying the Nano isn't a good product...but for the price, there are better options out there unless looks is what you look for the most. Personally, I'd rather have a 20GB at $299 than a 4GB at $249. The mp3 world isn't centered around iPod anymore either...the Creative Zen Sleek (20GB) is only $249, with FM tuner and recorder. Sure the 20GB's are bigger, but why does it matter as long as it fits comfortably in your pocket or a case that you can carry it in? And damn, I've got biger than average hands too...I'd be scared I'd drop the thing just trying to grab it.
I don't have any 'plugs' in my system (the head-unit that is), it's standard factory equipment stuff, nothing too fancy. I heard about that FM wireless kit that could be plugged into the MP3 player's headphone jack and it broadcasts over an FM station (wireless transmission), not sure if that's any good though quality-wise, if anyone here knows or has tried this please inform me of your experience.
Tigermission1- The plug-in/FM tuner gadget for Ipods is called the Itrip. Yes, you lose a lot of quality, but for newer cars that no longer even offer tape decks, this just might be your best bet. Roommate has one (not an audiophile) and she likes it just fine.
I'm not sure about your mp3 player, but for mine (iPod), I use an iTrip. It is relatively....ok. Maybe it's because there are too many radio stations or maybe my car windows are well shielded, but the reception is just ok. Rarely crystal clear. Another downside is that it drains your battery twice as fast so you better have a car charger.
Did you hear about the newest iPod and it’s new spokesman? Yeah, the new spokesman is Robin Williams and the newest iPod is called The Shazbot! Nano Nano!! edit: you 30-somethings may get this... you 20-somethings and other younglings can just move on to the next post.
If you're going to buy a wireless FM Transmitter, you defintly want to spend 50 or more on it. Ive tried some that were cheaper, and most had very poor quality. When I finally decided to spend upwards to about 80, it worked amazing, even in Houston.
I didn't quite understand what you were trying to say, dude. What does this have to do with the transmitter? Are you talking about FM reception from a radio station, or the FM transmitter from the iPod to your FM tuner in your car? The latter has nothing to do with the city.
Ipod is not the best as people think. The best mp3 players are Maxians in my opinion. They can play and record tv and movies. http://www.maxian.com/index.asp
Kool, thanks for the advice, could you tell me specifically what brand/model yours was? I might just go ahead and buy the same one since I don't want to buy a crappy one and waste money over it. Thanks
