Well, I don't know how to help you out any further. At this point, I'd suggest hitting up Apple's official discussion board. Maybe someone has a similar problem.

Are you using T-Mobile with the I-Phone? If so is there anything that you can't do, or anything extra that you can (guessing your's is hacked....)

I was about to buy an iPhone in Dallas, the guy asked if I was going to hack it since I had a Canadian id, being the honest (idiot) guy that I am, I said "maybe"......

So he took my id and said I was banned from buying them......could have gotten someone to buy one for me, but, the hell with iPhone's.

You should have complained to the Civil Rights Commission in your country.

Tell them you have effectively been disenfranchised from being part of the iPhone community.

    DD,

Who needs an IPhone when you have a Gizmondo. Aren't you still carrying one of those around with you.

Hell no, the Iphone is better than the first Gizmondo, the 2nd generation was always the one that I was excited about.

The first one was designed prior to my coming on board and they made major mistakes with it......

It was a neat little text messaging, GPS, game playing device, but leaving the phone out was a major mess up.

The 2nd one was WAY better...with a flip up camera for hand held video conferencing, and being a phone.....way better.

And now the same CEO and Chairman are trying to launch it again, and bilk more investors out of money.

    SAD.

My Treo 680 does EVERYTHING that the iPhone does and it's been doing it for years ...just not as sexy looking. So I guess my life was changed years ago cause I can't imagine life without my Treo.

Personally, I can't imagine life with a phone with no buttons. But to each his own.

I'll concede web browsing is hot on the iphone but email and texting is better on the Treo. I've been watching video's and playing MP3's on my Palm phones for at least 3-4 years.

The safari web browsers puts all mobile web browsers to shape. Its multitouch is to phones what the mouse is to the desktop.

I had the same thinking that you did going into this when I posted the original questions. I have now had my iPhone for 3 weeks and couldn't be happier. The Treo is pure garbage compared to the iPhone. Texting and email are just as easy. It's simplicity is ridiculously clever and no buttons = no problem. Also, the lack of 3G is not a problem so far. I am getting speeds comparable to my Treo with EVDO on Sprint and better page rendering.

Bottom line is, there are a lot of devices on the market that can do the same things as the iPhone, but none of them can do so many things well. I've tried all of the major pda phones and have been disappointed with most. In the coming years the iPhone will be what all of the companies are trying to match up to. Apple has set the bar and now others will attempt to catch up.

OK guys, just got the iPhone - I know everyone says to hack it, but what are the benefits? Also when I was on my first and only call earlier, the other person sounded pretty distorted and low volumed - basically it didn't really sound like their voice. Has this happened to anyone else?

I haven't had that problem with call quality. Be sure you are holding the phone pretty close.

As far as jailbreaking, the advantage is you get access to tons of indie made apps that add to the phone. Many of them are useless some are very cool.

The disadvantages are that depending on the version of firmware you have on the phone you have it can be a pain in the ass to do. Also if you ever want one of the official updates you will have to go through the whole process again.... Once the hackers figure out how to break the new update, of course.

However, the official release of the SDK to developers actually happens this month, so the whole thing might be moot anyway. An announcement is expected any day now.

Third party apps without the hassle of jailbreaking would be nice.

Yeah I'm hoping it was just her phone - I'll reserve judgment on that later. What 3rd part apps do you find useful?

Well I guess they are technically '3rd party' - though like I said with jailbreaking it just opens it up for any developers to start throwing stuff on there.

Some were pretty cool - a few games, but I personally thought SCUMMVM on the iPhone rocked. But most were utilities - versions of Stumbler (wi-fi finder), the service that used cell phone tower signals for mock GPS (which Apple later incorporated anyway), lots of IM services, Media applications for music and movies (including being able to send music to other users).... just different things.

It was more a matter of browsing through and seeing what you liked. It's just that for every one I thought I might like to have and would use, there were five more that were the opposite.

I would still jailbreak the phone, of course, if not for the fact that I want to see what happens with the official SDK and I don't want to bother with the process right now.

The newer firmwares (which you probably have since you just got the phone) are more of a pain in the ass to jailbreak.

Ah - for any other idiots out there, don't do what I did:

I went to the Apple Store in Memorial City Mall about my problems hearing people when I talk on the phone. The guy took my phone, took off the protective film that came with it, and handed it right back to me. Worked perfect. Duh. I thought it was a protective cover for the screen, but it turns out it's just for packaging - it covers the speaker on the top of the phone so everything sounded muffled or low when it's on. $15 dollars later, I had the real protective film. I'm an idiot.
