Wasn't that the red box , yellow box, blue box thing that got shelved after Gates invested in (ie saved) Apple?
This really should be Apple's new ad campaign: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6wcwIQIfFug"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6wcwIQIfFug" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
I was watching CSNBC and they were discussing Apple and ATT stock. They suggested to keep and or buy them as the iphone wouldn't have a legit competitor for a while. They also suggested some company down under or close to it that makes accessories for the iphone. They also mentioned that Nokia and Blackberry would be one of the first to pose a legitimate challenge to the iphone. They mentioned the model #s, but I didnt have time to get them down. Does anyone know what these Nokia and Blackberry models will be???
No Competitors?? That's because any other cell phone would NEVER get the kind of coverage the iPhone has been getting. There are a good selection of phones out there that would do the same thing, and in most cases, more than what the iPhone does. Sure it might not be easy to use for the average consumer or has the presentation of the iphone, but they are still capable of the same functions.
People say this, and it is as if ease of use or presentation are negligible, cosmetic issues - I really think they are not. As if "oh, they make it lovely, easy to use and quick so people love them," Right, that;s the point, the ******* thing is lovely, easy to use and quick. And I have yet to see a device that comes close. Has anyone messed with the touchscreen? It is incredible.
not sure, just heard someone talking about it. i'd assume, isnt AT&T the only company to offer it as of yet?
Well that sucks. I actually put Cingular's 'insurance' good use this year, paid the 50 bucks and got my phone replaced. I was wondering if they were referring to Apple, who like most computer stores would not have covered accidental damage anyway.
could be apple, like if you order online or get it at an apple store..dont know, not planning on getting one...havent really looked into it.
I opted to get an unlocked MOTORIZR Z3 over the iPhone. I saved $300 upfront, as well as an additional 480 over two years. Is it bad for Apple that I am feeling too locked to the Mac platform?
I don't know if you were watching CNBC or MSNBC 'cause I've never heard of CSNBC. As for competition, there isn't a ton of things it does that others don't do, and there are things that others do that it doesn't do for a lot less. What it does have is a slick presentation. Do I think anyone will try to duplicate the presentation anytime soon? I dunno... probably not, but we'll see. Some of the companies the various shows I've watched mention are Samsung (who makes a lot of the iPhone and gets about $50 for every iPhone sold), Marvell, and Infineon. The problem is that at any given time, Apple could switch to another manufacturer for the parts these companies provide for the iPhone. Synchronoss is the company that does the activations or makes the technology that does it for the iPhone. Their stock has been screaming for the past year and it just popped again. Eric Bolling on Fast Money thinks it's a buyout candidate. I know which company you're talking about with the accessory, but can't think of the name.... blah. FYI : one company disassembled the phone and said that Apple has something like a 55% profit margin on the phone based upon what the parts cost. They estimated the 8 gig version of the phone costs about $250 (can't remember the exact amount) to make.
I went and checked out the iPhone again, and ended up going back to the Ocean. The Ocean's sort of bulky, doesn't have great battery life, and can't do awesome web browsing. But the Ocean is AWESOME for messaging, has a great camera, kick-ass GPS, and 3G. I really like the iPhone, but I couldn't bring myself to spend $600 on it. I used it exclusively on the Edge network, and it was crazy-slow. Google maps was usable, but painfully slow. Web browsing was pretty bad. Youtube didn't work at all. I did get better at typing on the iPhone though. The iPhone is such a slick device (much COOLER than the Ocean), but I couldn't give up all of the Ocean's features.
I would love to get one, but don't want AT&T as a provider. Might just wait until Apple expands the providers for the iPhone.
If it takes that long, then so be it. If AT&T improves their service considerably, before then, I'll buy one. (hopefully it'll be the vastly improved model that'll be available... whichever year it is)
They (Cingular) do that with all of their PDA's. It's because people were buying them and then claiming they were stolen.
I will admit the Helio looks pretty cool, too. The key to all of it, imo, is business ease of use. Blackberry still has a strangle-hold on that market. I'd personally switch to something else, but my IT people are most comfortable with Blackberry....and they are good IT people, just telling it how it is, which is fine. It could change. So I have a blackberry...for now.
