I think there are lots of people who would like to be on Sprint but go to AT&T/Verizon because of the iPhone. Sprint's customer service is now rated #1, their plans are more attractive, and there is the allure of unlimited data. Sprint has done everything they can to position themselves, but they themselves have said that by far the #1 reason why they bleed customers is no iPhone. AT&T on the other hand already ranks dead last in customer satisfaction and aren't helping matters by forcing tiered plans on everyone.

It would be a massive coup for Sprint. Not to say I'm not highly skeptical, but I think this is in fact plausible considering the high price Sprint is alleged to be paying for it.

i thought the customer satisfaction/quality went like this:

    1- verizon
    2- tmobile
    3- sprint
    9999999999th- at&t

    ?

That was 2 years ago. Sprint is tied with Verizon for #1 now. T-Mobile is declining, and AT&T is dead last.

Me and my wife. We both have 3g's and are not under contract. I'll avoid AT&T at all cost. So sprint would be great, number 2 is verizon

I plan on upgrading from my 3GS. I'd rather stick with AT&T since they're supposed to have their 4Gish system and I have unlimited data with them.

Apple would be making a bigger mistake than with the AT&T exclusivity deal. I don't believe it for one minute. Android will pile-drive them in the USA even worse than they are now and this could also be the break WP7 needs to become a significant 3rd option.

Remember the initial buzz with iPhone 4? (Android is a year behind Apple, blah blah). After a month or two, Android sales shifted into another gear. I'm sure iPhone 5 will be awesome and push the smartphone envelope, but exclusivity with Sprint would box it into a small corner.

Depends on how long the exclusivity lasts. The "mistake" they made with AT&T was that they stuck with them for years. I put that in quotes because in spite of the numerous problems and complaints, it didn't seem to hinder sales growth at all.

If I had to bet money on it I would bet on a non-exclusive deal. But I still think that they could get away with a 1-year exclusive with Sprint here, and, as BGR alleges, leave AT&T/Verizon with an iPhone 4S consolation prize.

If the iPhone 5 is exclusive to Sprint I'll be picking up the GS2 on AT&T so fast. Apple would never make the iPhone 5 exclusive much less to Sprint hahahahaa keep dreaming.

One article I read said 4 years. Even for one year, that gives Google and it's Android partners time to adapt and Apple can't afford that.

I realize Android isn't evolving nearly as fast as 2-3 years ago, but once the iPhone 5 marker it laid, it will be surpassed in a relatively short amount of time.

Close to nil chance Sprint gets even one year exclusivity. Would repeat one of the biggest mistakes in Apple history.

Microsoft and Nokia are also praying this happens.

The BGR articles says it would only be exclusive until sometime in the first quarter of next year. That would be a lot of money for less than 6 months of exclusivity.

    It really sounds fishy.

If this exclusivity thing happens, then I don't see any reason why Apple will have LTE on it. It'll be a while before Sprint gets their LTE network running.

So Sprint is going to bet a huge chunk of money (enough to risk the entire company supposedly) that millions of people won't stick with AT&T and Verizon and wait 6 months?

Sprint deserves to fail if true.

For some reason, I'm unable to pull up the WSJ article (for free).

I'm with AT&T and I was grandfathered in with unlimited data no way I'm leaving. I just want a damn new phone already. I've had a 3GS for over 2 years now, my contract is up, my phone is slowly dying i don't care if its a 4S or 5 just get a new phone out.

yea, talked about that in my post. but i read on gizmodo, they were speculating that the assistant feature might only work with a faster processor thats coming with the iphone 5. that would be kind of lame though no? i dont see why they would sell that as a big feature of iOS 5 if it couldnt at least work on an iphone 4.

i had that siri assistant app for awhile, it was pretty neat. though who knows what apple went and did with it. prob implemented across the board, could be a game changer.

From a technical standpoint. I know a thing or two about cell capacity

iPhone 5 has the potential to DESTROY Sprint's network. ALA AT&T, but alot worse since pretty much anyone can get Sprint (even if you have horrible credit)
