Now that the iPhone has been out a while and everyone and their nephew has one, I was wondering what good apps folks have stumbled across, and if anyone has jailbroken their iphone, is it worth the hassle?
I jailbroke mine for about a month. While many of the apps were cool and somewhat useful, I couldn't deal with the constant lagging and freezing brought upon by the jailbreak. Qik (live video recording/streaming) and Winterboard (customized skins and widgets) were the only jailbreak apps I really used. I would just hang around for the 3.0 update in a little over a month and if that still won't hold you over, jailbreak it.
I just have the iTouch (may get the phone this summer) but some apps I like: Pandora Radio: must have NBA Playoffs: must have for this time of year! Facebook: another must have if you're into that sort of thing Cube Runner: most addicting game i've found so far Flixter: cool if you watch a lot of movies and go to the theater often USA Today: self-explanatory TMZ: celebrity gossip/news, good if you need a quick laugh Last Call: tracks your blood/alcohol level for you PghTraffic: shows various live traffic cams around your city (Pgh = Pittsburgh obviously, but i'm sure this app is available in your location also)
My son jailbroke his about 2 months ago (his money - his call). He's had to "reload" it about 4-5 times since because of the freezing and on/off problems. He still says it was worth it but he's 15. IMO, it wouldn't be worth it for the new things it can now do because it's been jail-broken.

This is a good list....Ill second the ENTIRE list. I'll also like to add WunderRadio, Last FM, and Wifitrak. As for Jailbreaking, did it via QuickPWN and had the same laggin probles as theogcasey mentioned earlier it this thread. The OS just seemed really unstable, eventually swithed back to Apple's OS. Wait for 3.0 to hit. Alot of the advantages of Jailbreaking (like Cycorder) will be addressed by Apple, as rumors and leaks suggest. (source: MacRumors)
New iPhone detailed rumors are coming in about it having a magnetron (aka a compass, I think the G1 already has one).. Yeah, just wait for the 3.0 software though.
