Great advice. I've been shopping for a tablet lately and have definitely noticed this regarding Apple products. That said, (and not to derail the thread but..) I think I'm going with a non-Apple tablet. These high end Droid tablets can do everything the Ipad can do and then some. Some of them are cheaper too.
One more thing, seems like no one mentioned, a big difference between 3G and non-3G is that GPS is only included in the 3G version, the chip is mounted together with the 3G chip. Although the price difference between the two is enough to get you a pretty decent standalone GPS.
The usual "I don't mean to [insert action that's about to happen], but"... just happened. I'll bite. WHAT can they do? And what "some" more?
My work gave us all white ipad2 16gig for christmas. fk yeah! Anyone got some good apps I should get? Don't give me angry birds, words w friends, etc. I have those on my phone.
that's pretty awesome. Wish my work did that.... here's a couple I just picked up, also on iPad: If you have an XBOX 360, MS released a Live app that lets you message, edit avatars and check online statuses and achievements. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/my-xbox-live/id480914036?mt=8 Flipboard is a customizable news app, like a RSS reader, and will take news sources you choose, even stuff from your Twitter and Facebook if you want, and create basically a big touchscreen magazine out of it. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flipboard/id358801284?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=2 Spoiler I've been using them for about a week, they're pretty cool, probably even better on ipad. What kind of stuff are you looking for? Games?
They can play Flash, they don't restrict Youtube, they don't make you run your music through iTunes, bigger screen, better camera, expandable memory. I'm sure there's more but those are primarily the issues I care about. What makes the iPad so significantly better than, say, the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet? Well, other than the fact that one's an iPad and the other isn't.
That's not pretty much it, but ain't no tellin' those that feel that way any different so I won't bother to try. It's a consumer product. People have different tastes and appreciate different features and functionality.
Another thing to consider is the possibility the Ipad 3 could debut as early as February. Yeah, I'm going with an Android tablet.
Does anyone know where I can for sure find an iPad 2 at this late stage of the Christmas shopping game? Wouldn't want to drive all the way to Micro Center if one of you dudes knows they have none. Thanks.
I was at Microcenter last saturday. No white 16gb wifi. They had black though. Im sure Bestbuy still has some or just go to the apple store.
Ipad2 has lots more in-store apps, but that's not just it...the jailbroken appstores have hundreds of thousands of apps that bests all Android tablets...of course, you'll have to be willing to jailbreak it, but even a grandma could do it, so you could to... To fully enjoy a tablet, you've got to download as many apps as possible. You can root an Android, but its clunky and both harder and sometimes impossible to find the game/application/function you want because it simply doesn't exist. Of course, if you hate Apple, go ahead and grab an Android. Like someone posted above, they don't require iTunes sync n **** to get your music (of course, there's a jailbreak for the iPad for that, too..read below). For example, you could jailbreak an Ipad to download an all-in-one program that completely changes the background and swipe functions of an Ipad2 (kind of like going from Windows Classic to Windows 7...), but to do that with an Android, you'd have to spent 10x more work because it doesn't come in a nice package. Reading instruction manuals on multiple tabs is hardly what you want to be spending your spare time on... It's all about what you want, what you're willing to do for it, and how you want it. For me, I like to jailbreak/root things but I hate to do anything more than that. I like the feeling of getting stuff for free (bad me..), but I hate spending time tinkering around with the instructions for getting free stuff. So I bought an Ipad2 and kept it at a 4.x (or w/e it is..just not osx5), jailbroke it, and I get the coolest sh** with no effort and no money... Of course, the jailbreak for osx5 isn't out yet, but they're reported to be jailbroken before 2012.
I'm looking to buy a iPad2. Just wondering if I should wait until iPad3 comes out? I have no clue when they're coming out. I've decided to just get a ipad with wifi only because my jailbroken phone can act as a hotspot if needed.
So, you seem to know your stuff about jailbroken phones. I have a jailbroken iPhone 3GS and it's still iOS 4.0. I've been wanting to upgrade to iOS 5.0. It seems like they now have jailbreak for iOS 5 now. I used Cydia to jailbreak my phone. How the heck can I upgrade without breaking my phone??
