Kind of funny thing is that if the iPad 2 was a little bit thicker but had an HDMI output, buyers would probably be rejoicing about that.
Screw all this talk. Just tell me where I can buy one. This needs to be a locator thread and not all this other jibber jabber.
It has hdmi out through an adapter, so yeah I'm sure people would prefer built in. But I doubt many reviews would give it higher marks for being thicker ( and therefore likely heavier). These things are being positioned more as something you are holding; sitting back on the couch or carrying with you. Thicker and heavier is going backward.
Yeah, this all pretty funny, but you have to agree that Anandtech is a highly regarded site. (don't you?? ;-D- ) I've been using that site for a dependable source of reviews when shopping around for a PC, a graphics card, or a display for years. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone even hint at them having some sort of agenda, or else implying that they don't know what they're doing. It's rediculous. The main reason I have an interest in the iPad 2 (or the next model, which I may wait for) is that it's perfect for relaxing in bed, resting my sore back, and perusing this BBS, along with the rest of the net. What makes this model more appealing to me is the lighter weight and that it's easier to hold. The rest is a bonus for my purposes. I suspect that I'm not alone.
This argument is STILL going on? Some people like Apple, some people don't. Respect that and move along with your lives!
I have nothing against Anandtech - they do a fine job. Although I have to admit arguing which tablet has the best GPU is like arguing which 65 year old won the Senior Olympics' 20 meter dash. lol. I admit that would be a good use for it, but it's going to have to come down in price a whole lot more for me to buy one. I don't think any tablet is worth it when I have pretty much the same functionality and then some in a laptop. It's like I was telling someone at work - I keep thinking I'm getting less functionality and paying more for it. XOOM, Galaxy Tab, iPad, they're all basically the same to me - way overpriced cool gadgets with little functionality added and a lot of functionality removed. Hell, I'm just looking for a decent e-reader that's worth my money... Oh, and a phone to upgrade to from my iPhone 3G... I've been looking for a couple of years now. lol. I'm building a new PC right now - tablets can wait.
I like my Puma shoes. F*** all you a**holes walking around in Nike's. Overpriced, overrated pieces of sh**. They are inferior and anyone that buys them is an idiot. It makes me so mad when I see people walking around in them. AHHHHHH!!! I'm getting so pissed off just thinking about it. WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE DIFFERENT THINGS THAN ME??? How is that possible? WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM!?!? And...scene.
That makes no sense. I'd rather it be included, but not having function -> function isn't going backwards. Regardless, the form factor of tablets is a big part of the package. I don't think Apple, Motorola, HP, etc. are going to go 'let's make the next one heavier and thicker!' any time soon. Hey, we're all talking in relative terms here! Still, though, as someone who tries a lot of apps/games; the improvements become more and more noticeable (and welcome) with some of the stuff out there now.
I knew you would have something good to say about Anandtech and I get your point about the graphics. Like I said, it's a bonus for me. If I'm gaming, I'm doing it on my PC, or if I'm desperate, on a laptop. I haven't heard anyone say that any of these tablets will play Starcraft II. Yup, that's my main reason for wanting a tablet... surfing in bed. I've tried doing it with a laptop, I even have a netbook (it was a gift), and I just can't get comfortable using either one. Hell, 20 years ago it wouldn't have mattered. I could twist, turn, and contort myself to my heart's content, but no longer. These tablets fit my particular needs and the lighter the better, along with as large a screen as I can manage to hold or prop up while in the sack, preferably one with an IPS display, and I could watch something on it without waking the significant other. Funny that you mentioned an iPhone 3G. That's what I have and I've been pondering getting a replacement and giving the 3G to one of my kids. I think I'll wait for the iPhone 5, which reportedly will have a larger, even higher resolution screen that'll be easier on my eyes. Heck, I've waited this long! Just for reading? I just may get a Kindle. The latest models are cheap and have higher contrast than the previous ones. Supposedly the best looking text of the e-readers.
Lol It really isn't hard once you get used to it. I'm doing it right now and I am super comfortable. Plus a real keyboard is so much nicer than virtual keyboard (I personally type ALOT faster on an actual hard QWERTY than a virtual one).
I've had back surgery and I type with my laptop on my chest in bed... doing it now. And it's a honkin' HP workstation. I admit, I'd rather be using something like an iPad right now. lol. Seriously, though, if I'm just surfing while in bed, the iPad is the clear winner (and my back is nodding in agreement). But if I'm typing anything of length or doing work, this laptop wins easily. Which is kind of why I choose a laptop over a tablet - I can do both on the laptop.
Mine was a L5/S1 disc fusion that went south after the operation, and I've had chronic pain now for a very long time. (have we had this conversation before? can't remember!) Do you need reading glasses? I'm having hell trying to keep mine perched on my nose with a netbook on my chest. It's just awkward for me. A laptop just feels too heavy to be comfortable. Pathetic, right? It'd probably work on my wife's chest just fine. ;-)- Also, I'm a two finger guy with a keyboard, so pecking out things on a tablet isn't a big deal. If I'm traveling, the idea of a computer that weighs less than two pounds, with a keyboard that weighs a few ounces, sounds very appealing. I've lugged laptops around an airport and out of town often enough. Anything that doesn't weigh much is a plus. I'll give the netbook that much credit. It doesn't weigh much.
