you know how almost all wars in history is triggered by religion? i predict future wars will be triggered by fanboys every talk of apple, windows, android and the like turns into a massive flame fest
Hak34, if there were superior products to Apple then where were they a year ago when the iPad came out? Why is it that once iPad is out it took a year for competitors to even put something out that rivals it? Where was the "superior product" to the original iPhone, or did it come out 2 years later? Why are competitors copying Apple at everything they do? Sorry dude, but your arguments are completely subjective, and don't apply to anyone but yourself. You might as well be talking to a mirror because no one here takes you seriously. I still maintain that Apple makes the best tablets and best laptops, while the iPhone is still highly competitive right now to newer phones even though it came out almost a year ago. That doesn't make me a fanboy. I don't care about the Apple logo in fact I dislike the fact that everyone at my school has the same laptop I do (Macbook Pro) or an iPhone like me.
Would it make apple haters happy if I came out and said I'm rich...I don't care about getting the most bang for my buck...I want something stylish...just like my gucci belt, Louis vuitton shoes and BMW?
Obviously they didn't spontaneously shatter but cell phones get dropped (usually not on purpose) and they should be equipped to handle them. This is the reason as to why build quality is important. I have seen Motorola and HTC phones take beatings and still run like champs. This whole glass casing design is quite idiotic in my opinion. They went for form over function. I stand by my statements. Apple products are generally expensive and look flashy but in terms of overall quality, they really are not as great as they are hyped up to be.
I've worked with macs since 1992 and ive been responsible for their purchase and up keep for entire art departments at some of the largest design firms in Houston over that time and I can tell you from experience that over the years the build quality has been terrific and the products and operating system always cutting edge. Customer service and warranty work all excellent as well. I have a first generation iPod I still use as a durable potable 5GB FireWire drive. It's gotta be 10 years old. My 5 year old first generation iPhone just got handed down to my son to use as an iPod touch to play games and watch movies on. Its been dropped so many times i cant count, and sent through the washer and dryer twice and is still kicking. It has a few dead pixels on the edges but I could get it activated tomorrow if an 8 year ols needed a cell phone. I've resisted the urge up until now to buy an iPad because I don't have the extra money, but I have plenty of practical uses for one. You can choose any phone/tablet/laptop/computer/mp3player/wireless router you want and I'd never look down on you or tell you what a fanboy or idiot you are. Me I'll continue to buy products from a company that makes my life easier in many ways even if I have to pay a few dollars more up front and listen to the haters who have no idea most of the time what they are talking about or why they hate Apple so.
I'm really not singling you out here BRR, but this is kind of ridiculous considering what you are surrounded with in here. As far as the quality question goes, sometimes it's just simply that everyone else had a better experience or likes something you don't. This 'attribute everything positive to bias' that some have adopted as gospel is as bad as any other crap spewed in these immature 'Warz'. It's the equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and screaming because you don't like what you are hearing. You had a problem with a product that hasn't been sold in 6 years. Hell, I don't even fault you for that; I've met all sorts of people that tell me that Dell/Apple/HP/Microsoft etc etc is 'crap' and that they'll 'never buy that again'. It happens. But personally, I think at some point a person has to try and rationalize and not just assume that everyone else around them must be blind while only they can see. As far as what is 'annoying';I hate to break it to you, but as Android grows, so too does it's fanboys. Just look at the comments section of any tech blog, or heck even the threads here on this board. Anyone with any objectivity should be able to recognize that the overzealous raving is far from a one way street at this point. Here on this BBS, just a basic apple thread about a product that people bought (which doesn't automatically make them 'fanboys', though some seem to have a hard time grasping such a simple concept) gets trolled up by 'the other side'. I'm sorry, but it's a little disingenuous to come into the middle of that and complain about the actions of people talking about an Apple product. All of this stuff is just getting more than a little dumb. Not being able to just discuss something without it turning into all this immature crap is unfortunate, and it's a shame that it's allowed to happen with regularity around here.
Sigh I guess Ill continue on. Apple is not any amazing leader among technology companies. They did not make the first touchscreen phone, they did not make the first smart phone, they did not make the first app, nor the first phone with web browsing, an operating system, or even a keyboard. This again is exactly my point. You believe apple invented everything and everyone else copied them. The exact opposite happened. As far as being so inventive with tablets. Seriously you can't believe ipad was the first. Maybe in appleville it was and everyone else copied them. LOL And sorry, the day the iPhone4 was released it was a step behind the real serious phones of that time or was slated to be released soon after. Now its just lagging way behind. I'll give it credit that it sells, and sells damn well. Its just not anywhere near cutting edge, or a competitor, or copied as apple people wish it was.
Oh and just so we are all clear. Lets just breakdown one part of one statement. "I believe apple makes the best tablet, best...." First ill take notice of the fact you left phone off your list, second...based on what? Technical stats? Well obvioiusly it cant be that. Price...once again, cant be that. So what exactly makes it the best. How light it is? Nope not the lightest, nor the largest screened, nor the fastest, nor highest resolutioned, nor the full 1080p video'd. Maybe it has the highest resolutioned camera front and back. Maybe its VGA back camera is so much better, much in the way its cheaper front camera is to its competitors. Ok so what exactly is it then? Is it how pretty it is? Its logo? Right, gotcha.
Do you masturbate to technical specs and how high resolution the camera is? Do you? I think what you and other Apple haters don't understand, and what Apple does understand, is that user experience is by far the most important part of an electronic device. User experience encompasses a bunch of things, some you mentioned, and some you didn't. It INCLUDES battery life, design, weight, software, hardware, touchscreen responsiveness, OS, etc. The iPad 2 beats the competition when you judge it on user experience. That's why Apple is making boatloads of money. You realize why Apple can go around without Flash and still be the industry leader in phones and tablets? Because it obviously doesn't matter as much as the other things that iDevices have going for it! btw, I left off phone because I believe that right now Android phones are better than the iPhone 4, which is proof that I'm not a blind fanboy. If I had to replace my 3GS right now I would get an Android or maybe windows phone. But I digress, I have a feeling the only rebuttal you will have is that "that's BS you just like the Apple logo on the back" which I already stated I don't care about and even dislike sometimes.
Well when all else failes, it always comes down to user experience. The battle cry of all apple people when tech specs, price, common sense cant be argued anylonger. Hey oil companies make buttloads of money too, doesnt make them the best most awesomness, people persons on the planet. Bill Gates and microsoft also. Its not a great thing to the only game in town, with a following of sheep who bleet away. Its ok though, Apple is outsold by Android, and I still believe RIM now. People have started seeing the light. It wont take long. Till they make an even larger iPad, connect a keyboard to it and call it a iPadPc. Then you can rave on about how inventive they were and genious and overpay for mediocre product.
Notice how you didn't even try to argue my point of user experience. Out of material? Oh well, I expected more of a fight from you.
I'm gonna wait til the ipad 10 comes out so they can get all the kinks out by then you know what I mean? And by then it would prob. be as thin as paper.
I don't like Apple but I do admit that the capacitive touchscreen smartphone is a breakthrough (don't think I can live without mine lol). And the tablet market was a dying one which Apple brought back. It wasn't something they invented but something they did revolutionize. But I do agree, this whole "everybody is copying Apple" stuff is getting annoying. While somewhat true, this is how competition comes about in every market.
User experience is subjective. I personally find the interface of iOS lame (same reasons I find WP7 lame) and that the interface of Android is far more intuitive (and the app market for Android is fast growing as well, I have everything I need and more, tho Netflix would be nice). Plus the browser of iOS is horrible (slow, gray boxes everywhere. Not my cup of tea). I come away with a better experience on an Android device than I do on an iOS device (while you come away with the opposite). Yes, iOS and WP7 are smoother than Android but the OS' themselves are too lame for me (I find 4x4 grids and tiles stupid. My personal opinion). Plus with good hardware, Android flies.
hmm okay since you want to look at tech specs so much here you go http://www.iphonehacks.com/2011/03/...-tegra-2-powered-motorola-xoom.html#more-5532 ipad 2 A5 processor blows away xoom.... "AnandTech conducted GLBenchmark 2.0 tests to find out the triangle throughput tests and observed that iPad 2 delivered results 3 to 5 times faster than iPad 1 and 2 to nearly 7 times faster than Motorola Xoom." AnandTech also found that iPad 2 ran at 5.4 times the framerate of iPad 1, which grows to 7 times if anti-aliasing is turned on and 3.7 times the framerate of the Xoom.
Those are kinda bs numbers. Not many valid benchmarks are done on different operating systems. I highly doubt the iPad has 7X better graphics than the Xoom, they are probably very close. But they will both play Angry Birds fine.
