Yeah, but that's just as true for a laptop.

i know. so if i am going to carry something, why not carry a macbook or something?

as a guy i feel like i have to plaln ahead for this tablet's use. meaning if i am going on a trip, i know i will get some use out of it..so i will take it. if i am casually going places, i don't know what the use for it will be..so i leave it at home.

1: rich people who wants another toy to show around in public
2: apple worshippers who must get everything apple makes
3: people who were actually waiting for a portable device like Dr.'s, shipping industry etc
4: people who see the new hip trend of tablets and creating some lame "reason" to use it.

    any other categories?

If all you want to do is have something to get on the internet, check your email, maybe watch netflix...what does it matter? Better battery life, more portable, just as easy/easier than a laptop.

Those categories are ridiculous, by the way, and just ignore the fact that (not to mention insult the) millions are buying iPads, Xooms, Tabs, etc. etc. all around the country.

People have also made the same argument you are trying to make for smartphones. Hell, some still do. There are lots of things in the world that can be applied to what we 'need' or not.

I use my iPad very often. When I'm on the couch watching tv, I'd much prefer having the iPad on my lap than my laptop...it's lighter and it doesn't get hot, so I save some sperm. Also, I travel at least once a month, and I've never had anything entertain me on a plane like the iPad. Perfect for travel.

I'm also incorporating iPads into my dental practice...patients will be signing in on an iPad when they enter the office. Pretty neat.

    Sure

I use it when working to carry a number of manuals around with me. Rather than lugging around 8 manuals perhaps totaling 2000+ pages, I have a device weighing around a pound.

I also use it to RDC into my work computer using VPN. What, I should use my laptop? Sorry, but my laptop is connected to a customer's private network and I cannot get outside their environment, so I need a second device.

I'm driving cross country and I need email, GPS, Internet browsing, video entertainment, hulu+, Netflix, iTunes movies or songs. What, I can use a phone? Sure, if I want to stare at a really small screen. I can use my laptop? Well, my laptop isn't able to capture a cell signal, also its battery life is only a few hours.

I'm attending a meeting or function and I need Internet access or a note taking device or use it to record so I can transcribe minutes.

There are a number of times it has come in extremely handy. Its size is great, larger than the little cell phone screen, not as cumbersome to manipulate as a laptop.

This is pretty cool. Lots of mags are creating 'apps' for their digital versions, something optimized for tablets. Kind of like the evolution of the magazine. Lots of imbedded, interactive content and material.

    Project magazine

    Empire magazine

There's also The Daily, the news magazine built for the iPad.

Ha, its going to be on a stand, where the patient comes in and basically finds their name on the schedule and signs in. They wont be playing around with it, so it should last. I hope.

Also forgot to mention earlier that we will be using iPads for dental videos/information for patient education. Much easier handling an iPad than a laptop.

There are so many uses for tablets...I dont understand the confusion that people have for these types of devices.

AnandTech has done their benchmarks on the GPU. With the combination of the improved form factor, dual core CPU and now this, I think this is a much more impressive update of the hardware than initially believed. As an aside, I don't think we're going to see an updated version of this GPU in a mobile device until the release of the new Playstation portable.

I must admit, I thought the same things when tablets first came out: I thought it would be a very niche market, with mostly Apple fanboys clamoring to have the "latest thing". But I must admit, they've had a much wider appeal than I originally anticipated. For a lot of people, a fully functional laptop is just too cumbersome of a multi-function portable device, and the tablets (not just iPad) present a great option for them.

What kind of stupid comparison is this? The Xoom is 1280 and had to process 30% more video data than the iPad 2.

Well, I don't care what the numbers say...I'm sure all the tablets are functional. I only have spent considerable time with the iPad...but I know its processor is as fast as it needs to be. I don't think I'd really notice any difference if it was faster. I'm sure the Xoom is a great product as well, as far as processing is concerned.

If these tablets took 15 seconds to open up an application, I'd understand debating it...but it happens almost instantly.

    (i don't know why I'm bothering but)

Well, while you are busy calling everything else around you 'stupid', I'm gonna hope you figure out that the benchmarks are testing GPU performance. I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually.

Im sure eventually you'll figure out that nothing in your post refutes the numbers he posted either.

I don't get why apple people get so bent out of shape knowing they buy inferior overpriced products. Its not even a debate anymore. I thought we learned this in the phone/laptop/homepc versions of apple already.

They have nothing to do with my post, why would I refute anything? Not sure why you are (also) having trouble with this.

lol. You've got to put out a little more effort than this. Come on now.

I don't get why you are so exercised about members of society purchasing products they enjoy and that serve their needs. Why should you care? Frankly, and with all due respect, you sound very insecure. As Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." Are you a lady? You certainly are no gentleman when it comes to this topic.

I dont know, maybe because you tried to infer that what Cowboy posted was irrelevant because his "video" statement did not pertain to GPU performance. When in fact his chart showed better GPU performance on the Zoom in more area's than by the Ipad. It was kinda the pot calling the kettle type situation. Or it was just another apple person refusing to believe (as they always do) they pay for logo, not actual performance.
