The thing is you don't need i-bankers in Northern Idaho or Sub-Saharan Africa; but if you're willing to move there and can manage/design a factory, plant or mining operation in a place where that's their only industry, your value is off the charts.
I worked in IB for two large banks some years back. Although I hated the job, it was just hazing for the great exit opportunities and helping me understand what career I wanted. Take the IB offer for the versatility. However, if money is what you're after, consider becoming your own boss. I know several individuals who own various small businesses (like clinics, fast food franchises, motels, and gas stations). Their yearly take-home trumps anyone working in the financial, energy, or legal industry short of top-tier management or partner positions. Still, they answer to no one, and they work fewer hours on their own schedule. Hook 'em!
