Man, it's good to see Hayes working out in the background. I wonder who is the other person working out with him? Not sure if any of you guys follow tennis but Andersen sorta looks like Robin Soderling - the guy who lost to Federer in the French Open final. Oh well.
David Andersen is (or at least will likely be) exactly what his contract indicates: A backup-quality NBA center with enough offensive skills to make over $2M per season. Not much more. Not much less. Is he Luis Scola? Probably not. Scola was an absolute STUD in overseas competition. Guys like Ginobili, Scola and Marc Gasol are uniquely gifted. Is he just a "Euro scrub"? Likely not. This guy was not just an above-average player in Europe looking just to catch on with an NBA team so that he can claim to have played at the highest level of competition. Andersen was a VERY good player in the Euroleague and other leagues across Europe. It has been tossed around about how many championships he has won, but people need to realize that he wasn't just some Steve Kerr or even a Robert Horry on those teams (i.e., a complementary player who played a key albeit relatively minor role). He was a (if not the) primary option on many of those teams. He has amassed a very impressive resume over in Europe, yet many on this BBS don't want to give him any credit for it. Bottom line: Don't expect the guy to take the league by storm. Maybe don't even expect double figure scoring next year from him (at least not if Scola and Hayes are taking a large chunk of the center minutes). But the guy can play. He is PROBABLY (not "possibly", but also not "definitely" - I am choosing this word in particular) at the level of a fringe NBA rotation player right now. As in, he'd get minutes on a bad team but maybe wouldn't be a key rotation guy on a top-seeded playoff team. With some coaching, NBA game experience and a lot of hard work, David Andersen will probably be a QUALITY NBA rotation player by the end of the season (i.e., what Scola was by the mid-point of his rookie year), ready to be a valuable backup PF/C behind Yao in 2010-11.
A very even-keeled and realistic view of what David Andersen is probably able to offer. I don't think there is any way that he will ever be better than Scola, however I don't expect him to be outplayed by Dorsey anytime soon either. The only thing I don't agree with is the above statement. In the NBA, any 7 foot center with a pulse is paid more than $2M. Think Nazr Mohammed $6.5M, Jerome James $6.6M, Erika Dampier $10M, Kwame Brown $4M, Jeff Foster $6M just to name a few. I'm not sure how much Chris Mihm is making these days. I've heard Brad Miller's name get thrown around a lot in comparisons to Andersen. In no way do I think Andersen will be that good, at least not in his first NBA season. However keep in mind, a player of Miller's caliber is paid $12M a year. I think it is safe to say that as long as Andersen turns out to be a NBA caliber player, as in not a complete bust, his contract will be a steal. Just like Scola's.
I was watching my boy chuck hayes in the back instead of the interview I love how he's already working on his game for next season one of the hardest workers on the team go chuck!
He will just be a back up for Scola or however starts at center. His averages in the foreign leagues is not that impressive, I think he averages around 11ppg and 4 rpg.
Good to see Chuck in the background but would it kill him to add a jump hook to his game? It's not difficult as we saw Dorsey learn it.
Almost every shot chuck takes is a hook, its just a little unconventional. He's 6 4 65, playing against guys 5-8 inches taller than him with much longer wingspans, so a conventional hook shot would be difficult for him to get off. He has to throw up alot of baby hooks and scoop shots to quickly release the ball before the defender has a chance to block it. I wish he could knock down a midrange jumper, but for some reason I dont ever see that happening. Maybe its the form on his free throws that makes me think that.
He has a hitch in his jumper too. It's not as.. drastic as his free throws, but there is a definite hesitation. I'd love to see him gain some confidence in that shot from the top corner of the key and make himself more of a weapon in the offense.

Hayes has more of a chance of starting at center than Dorsey does this year. Hayes provides A+ def and prove himself in the playoff. Andersen would need to prove himself in games to take that spot away from Hayes. I think Andersen is going to be in foul trouble almost every single game because of his lack of speed on def and his strength is questionable.
Afaik, they measure barefoot in Europe; so, if he's 6'11 there, he'll probably be listed 7' if he was measured here.
Haven't seen him play besides highlights, but my biggest worry with Andersen isn't that he's a "scrub", but whether he can help plug the big defensive hole at center. From every report I've read of him, he sounds much more like a poor man's Scola at PF (or worse... a rich man's Cook), which at his contract is valuable, but doesn't fill the immediate need at C. A possibility is Landry gets traded later for a real C, so Andersen can slide to the 4.
