Hmm, I watch a lot of 1080p SC2 streams which probably suck tons of bandwidth. I wonder what my monthly usage is. I hope AT&T has some way to measure it... kinda unfair if they don't.
That's exactly what I think he was doing. 800 GB! Geez. I probably hit 10 GB with watching youtube and missed episodes of favorite tv shows.
comcast hasn't raised their cap since they implemented their 250gb cap 3 years ago do you really think our usage would be the same 3 years from now? this is utter crap capitalism for the lose
In canada, the ISP companies recently implented at 25 GB cap. Now that is awful. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...t-bitter-dose-of-metered-internet-billing.ars
First they came for the top 2%, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't in the top 2%. Then they came for the top 10%, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't in the top 10%. Then they came for the top 25%, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't in the top 25%. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Poor AT&T. I can see how they are going broke with only 124.28 billion in revenue and a 16% profit margin. This could bump them up to 16.125%!
I have some problem with it. Internet moralists will love it cuz it cuts down the proliferation of the dirty stuff. But for people who use the net for high data LEGAL uses, it'll suck. Like people who do online cloud gaming like Onlive, companies who deal in online data transfer as a BUSINESS (sending their clients huge data files such as surveillance video and legal documents).
Just logged into my Uverse account online and as far as I can tell, there isn't any way for me to look at my usages for previous months. That sucks, I'm really curious to see how close I have come to 250 GB (I suspect nowhere near).
How will this affect: - Online gaming? I mean how much does a person playing COD 4 hours a day use up in terms of GBs? - Online movie streaming? This seems like it would take a few or several GBs but unsure Also, could this be a ploy between ISPs and the entertainment industry to somehow curb illegal downloading?
I have gone over the cap almost every month for the last year, only 2 months have i noticed them actually capping me. The internet will still work, but traffic on port 80 slows to a crawl.
They can just charge you more. But that will actually piss you off and make you vote with your wallet. 100% of people understand that. Instead, they will give you less, because only 2% of the population will understand how that affects them.
