mrpaige, I respect and value your opinion. I don't consider the exchange to be arguing, however I just can't see your side of the picket fence, and of course I'm right! [IMG]

If the Warren commission did its job so well, then why did many of its contemporaries critique it so heavily?

No matter how good a job someone does, people who don't have to prove they can do better will criticize it. We could have the best President ever and he (or she) would still be criticized by 40%+ of people. That's just the nature of life.

The government could prove they have no aliens and people would still claim they do. People could dig up Elvis' body and prove that he's dead and people will still argue that's not true. Conspiracy theories are also just a part of life.

colby -- interesting point, I think. I've been up in the little museum in the book depository. It's amazing...you look out these windows that Lee Harvey was looking out of. I was struck with the exact same thought you were...why in the world would you wait for him to turn the corner?? he's coming straight for you...a clear shot..on Houston Street...particularly when you were trained by the Marines. Of course, his nickname in the Marines was Sh**shot..which further clouds the issue considering how hard it is to fire three accurate shots while using that bolt action. I was struck by the comment in JFK (the stone movie) that it seems the first shot would always be the most accurate...the least accurate would be the second and third as you become rushed with the bolt action. that shot was impressive if lee harvey is ultimately to blame.

I don't know where I come out on this. I lean towards thinking lee harvey wasn't alone. There were so many rules of procedure broken by the Secret Service in that parade route, it's laughable.
