It may be a good idea to start a thread for the discussion of how McHale has been using every player in rotation for each position, not just Lin or Harden. It will help shed some light on McHale' strengths and weaknesses.
i don't think that's a fair distinction. most people become fans of a team because of one or two players. what makes the other reasons for becoming a fan - family are fans, live in the area, etc. - more valid? that said, it doesn't make sense to only support one player, while wishing the entire team fail. maybe a different perspective is, some real fans might want to see something "fail" in order for things to change. i can't think of a worse scenario than the rockets continuing their "system", and thinking that they turned the corner because they beat the bobcats.
It's too obvious. They aren't going to buy it, but I love the post. The only quibble I have with it is that all of those who joined in 2012 haven't been Lin Only Fans. Some of them are simply fans perhaps drawn to the team by Jeremy Lin, but folks that have grown to support the Rockets as a team, not just because of Jeremy. And they shouldn't be lumped into a group simply based on the date. We've had some excellent members join over the last year, people that are assets to the board.
Hardens assist to turnover ration is 1.4 which is lower than any PG in the league. Lin's ratio is 2.02 which is not great but acceptable for a PG. Harden is shooting around 43% and Lin is around 42%. My point is they are both playing out of position and this is hurting them BOTH and the TEAM as well. Harden is a natural shoot first pass second SG which is fine. He just should not be running the offense.
He commits too many turnovers and everyone stands around while he holds the ball. His shooting Pct. is low because he goes ISO too much and forces shots. On the other hand Lin's talent is beng minimized by standing in the corner and being a spot up 3 point shooter which is not his strength.
Shumpert isn't happening, the Knicks love him. Irving plays worse defense than Harden, so that might not be optimal. I think Hill or Chalmers would be a good fit. Preferably Hill; he plays good D and would help compensate for Harden's lack of D, and he can shoot the 3 ball (good enough). IMO, most PG's are ball dominate or initiate the offense a good chunk of the game. The only way our coaching staff would let the PG dominate is if we had a caliber player like CP3.
Interesting. Maybe our coaching staff is trying to be like Spoelstra, where there are no positions. Position-less Basketball. Except Spoelstra has Lebron, Wade and Bosh and we have...uh, yeah.
I think that's partially true. Everyone agreed Harden is a better player than Lin. But it's for coaching staff to know how to fully utilize everyone on the team to play their str to win games. Harden was also being known for good spot up shooter, they should go back to when Lin facilitate and run the offense to get people to the right spots than having him standing in the corner and spot up 3's.
I am a big fan of both Harden and Lin. Hopefully they will continue to have good chemistry like in the earlier games and with Asik/Smith or a new big to play PnR with.
hundred percent agree, the rest of the team's confidence seems so fragile simply because harden continues to dominate the ball. This is similar, thought not identical, to what happened with Lebron in cleveland. Lebron's level of domination was so high that team was simply incapable of making plays if he wasn't a 120% every night. Some people do argue that Lebron didn't have enough talent, but going into his last years in cleveland, Lebron had a huge amount of great role players(shaq, jamison, mo williams, varejao, delonte west etc) and they did win 60+ games for 2 seasons. However, the team's dependency on Lebron was exploited constantly in the playoffs, simply because throughout the season, most guys didn't develop that necessary confidence and team cohesiveness that would be necessary to win big games in the playoffs and make big plays without Lebron. I dont think Harden could dominate as much as Lebron did, but to simply had him the keys to the offense is like giving the main weapon on our team only one spot from which to attack, its just too easy to layout an effective defensive strategy against the rockets, and good teams will exploit this hole endlessly. thus, i will continue to preach what i think is the solution, give lin the reins to the offense(his confidence is what is damaged, not his game), let harden play off the ball more, and bam!, we instantly become a very unpredictable and explosive team(its not going to be that fast, but it will work eventually)
